Yup, Jing is a great alternative to Camstudio that can be used to record screen on Windows XP, but note that its free version has 5 minutes' recording limitation. Thus you may try this free screen recorder, it's totally free and features recording screen, taking screenshots, uploading videos to youtube.com and many more.

Hi Benjamin.. yes it's true the current version does not work with XP. You will have to find an older version or another alternative.
http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html it's free .. but I have found that I needed a solid screen recording app for a short period of time.. I downloaded and used http://www.techsmith.com/download/camtasia/ free 30 day trial. It's about the easiest & best I've found.

Gotomeeting recording not playing in windows 8

Do you mean that the video file recorded by gotomeeting couldn't be played on your Windows 8? You should pay attention to its format, the gotomeeting video file is not supported by the most of players. If sometimes you need to review your gotomeeting video, you'd better to use other screen recorders which could record your session in common formats, such as MP4, AVI, WMV, etc. There're many free screen recorders could do this, like CamStudio and oCam. Besides, I can offer you a guide about how to use a useful application to record gotomeeting.

I have used CamStudio to successfully capture onscreen videos played via VLC (in AVI or FLV formats) - however it wont capture the videos in 3gp format played onscreen by VLC. All that I get is a black...

Your VLC doesn't support that format(3gp).you should convert that file into avi or flv, just download video converter like altysoft video converter for free...just type it in your browser then go..save the file and innstall.
hopes this helps and goodluck

I go to youtube to try to record a video from the built-in webcam and it says it cannot find a webcam.

Are you sure it's possible to capture/record youtube using your built-in webcam? I am afraid and no one has ever done it yet. It's possible with software like camstudio, but it's not possible. Just imagine, you webcam is facing towards you and how could you capture the video running on your computer monitor/screen?
There are several softwares but I have never come across a software which can capture both video and audio at the same time. In the same way CamStudio doesn't support both video and audio, it only supports video and we use mic to record the sound or use audio editor software with Stereo Mix to record the sound while the video is playing, later we edit to create the video with it's sound. If you want to download, you can visit CamStudio.org (click here to visit), it's a freeware.

I hope your webcam has no problem with yahoo messenger or skype etc.. if you have please let me mentioning the problem and make sure it's detected in the My Computer or in the Device Manager.

[Alternatively you can download Youtube video from this site; getyoutubevideo.com]

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Can I screen capture a website page through my webcam though it is not facing the screen? And then make a video of it with audio to upload as a video to YouTube?

No, it's not possible, but you can capture using an application called camstudio http://camstudio.org/ but only the video not the sound, it's better to download than capturing the media, i haven't come across any application which can be used to capture video as well as sound. Anyway try with the camstudio. Good Luck..

To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:

  • Log on to Windows as Administrator.
  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
  • On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  • On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.
Note: A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.

  • On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  • Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
  • Click OK.
If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you are finished.
