Hi Gemma. You will need to state the connection type that you are using. If it is via a VGA cable, blue 15 pin D connector, then it will not carry sound, neither will a DVI, bigger white connector. Only an HDMI cable will carry sound and video. If you use HDMI, make sure that you set the HDMI as sound device as well. If you are usinf VGA or DVI, you will need to add an audio cable, 3.5mm stereo audio from your speaker/earphone jack on the laptop to "Sound In" on the TV. Hope this helps!
