I'd like to know how to clean and apply new thermal paste to my Acer Aspire 2930z

You will likely do more harm than good.

The thermal paste that was put on in the factory was done so under optimum conditions, and according to strict protocols. You cannot "redo" it and make it "better".

I am going to guess the 'puter is overheating and crashing, yes?

If so, it is NOT a problem with the thermal paste on the underside of the Dorito (CPU Chip). It is likely a bad fan, dust, or some such. Do a Google Search for "How to clean a laptop computer" for ideas.

Here's one idea:

Acer aspire 5630 doesn;t start. problem with the monitor and the fan any solutions

If the fan is not working, your computer will not start sometime. Try cleaning the fan with hand held vacuum cleaner. and restart the computer. Before you clean the fan, remove the batteries and power cable from the computer.

Aspire 5315 0verheats and shuts down

The problem is in the cooling fan and heatsink, laptop must be dismantled down to the motherboard level, remove fan and heatsink, use a can of compressed air to blow out the clog of dust and dirt blocking the heatsink ports and cooling fan, next get some rubbing alcohol and a paper towel and clean the thermal grease from the processor and heatsink. Now apply a fresh thin layer of thermal grease to both items and assemble, this will fix most thermal issues.

GOT AN ACER ASPIRE 5742Z AND THE FAN IS REALLY NOISY AND ALMOST ALL THE TIME ON

Without doubt symptomatic of overheating.(hence the fan trying to cool all the time)
You need to remove the bottom cover of the laptop and vacuum out any dust that has accumulated in the heatsink and fan area. You may have to on tis model, partly dismantle the laptop to get the heatsink and fan. Given the 2nd part of the problem you describe, this is no bad thing, as a niosy fan MIGHT indicate a dying fan bearing, if it is not just a matter of being clogged, a replacement with heatsink can be had for about a tenner on Ebay.

I must stress, do NOT use the laptop until you sort this, as overheating will eventually cause the graphics chip to unsolder

It keep restarting constantly

Is the laptop getting very hot? Rebooting is usually caused by overheating. Try blowing a hairdrier set to cold air into the intake before booting up (Don't blow it onto a hot laptop, wait till it cools a little). If this cures the problem even for a little while, it would confirm the overheating problem.

The next stage is to dismantle (or get someone who is competent) to dismantle the laptop and clean out the CPU fan and intake / radiator matrix. Shoud be done periodically anyway.

If that cures the fault, then I'd suggest buying a USB cooling pad.
