The scanner/printer is detecting a jam and even the smallest piece of paper will stop the print heads from moving. check again along the corners and paper path and am sure you will see a little piece of paper caught somewhere torn from a larger jammed piece some time in the past. Carefully remove it and reset the printer/scanner.

IT have just been down to look at our scanner & cleaned the sensor which is in between the rollers just where the paper flits out at the bottom - we now have a green light! So look for that sensor.

Please clean the separation pad and the pick roller.
If this don't help change them.

The 3 paper sensors are located along the center of the paper path. They are: Registration (lever type) on the bottom between separation & registration. Look for lever damage or torn paper. Scan Start (reflective) on the top between registration & front reading roller. Clean the sensor window with qtip & alcohol. Delivery (lever) at the eject roller. Same as reg, but harder to see due to location.The feed roller exchange kit is 6915A001. The rollers in this machine are not considered user replaceable.

Does the message shows after few pages scanning or is there any panel error message like J-1 on scanner start up?
If the issue occurs during scanner start up, then there are staple pins or dirt might be stuck inside the US Sensor panel inside the scanner. Cleaning and removing the objects will resolve the issue.
If the error occurs after few pages scanning, then you may have to check the Pick Roller, Brake Roller, Pinch Roller and US Sensor FX status. you may have to replace any of the above, if damaged or worn off.
