Yes, adding a repeater closer to the laptop will repeat or boost the signal so you get a better signal. You can also try replacing the standard antennas with better ones.

SOURCE: POOR SIGNAL STRENGTH BEING 10 FEET AWAY

Check the signal using a different computer, cell phone or game console. If the signal is OK, it is not a problem with the router.
Dropping these units can break the antennas, check for obvious damage, check the orientation (angle). If it looks bent, it may be broken. Sometimes cracks will occur where he connector is soldered to the circuit board. Open the case, retouch the solder connections, with a properly sized soldering iron. Some antennas are removeable, some are not, they all should read continuity if checked with a ohmmeter.

Poor reception on some digital channels

If possible either move the set to a room with no reception issue to see if same there or move another set to where this one is.

Usually a set does not have a problem if only certain channels.

Swap the set(looking for loose or damaged connection where cable crimps to fitting) if you can.

Any TV that has a Coaxial input can connect directly to an RF antenna. If this person lives near a large city, its likely they will receive more channels than if they live somewhere remote. Perhaps an antenna with a powered Signal Booster will improve the signal. Neither are included so I think Radio Shack has a good selection.

Your best bet is to use a wireless extender, this will extend the range.
Google search for these devices.
