SOURCE: "unable to connect to selected network" error

Hi, May be your router is now running a more secure algorith and needs password etc which the old one can't handle. You may have to downgrade your router to the older system..not a good idea.

SOURCE: I am trying to connect wireless network, but

what i had to do was connect my ethernet cord to the computer with the wireless adapter. disconnect the adapter. go to belkin and download the updated driver and software for the adapter. DO NOT use the software that comes with the adapter as it is outdated by the time you buy it. make sure you remove all traces of the adapter and previous software and restart your comp before downloading and installing the new, or there will be file conflict issues. also, make sure your router configurations are correct. make your own ssid, use wep and hex key. when you make a 10 digit password it will be transformed into a 10 digit hex key. make sure you write it down and correctly enter it when using your adapter to connect to your network. if at all possible, try to avoid a belkin wireless adapter. they are cheap for a reason. i dumped mine, bought a netgear, went through the exact steps i described above, and all has been great. occasionally it will disconnect, but windows repairs it. if everything is not set up right, it will not repair the connection. it took me 5 12 hour days of research, trial and error, etc., but i got it all down and squared away. fgb_73@yahoo.com if you need further assistance.

It would help if your supplied the Asus Model and the OS you are using. Is your Wireless adapter enabled in the Device Manager? Are ALL the Windows and Asus updates current? What does the software indicate when you try to connect? In the Tray Notification Area , open the network icon, in Network and Sharing Center, what does it say? If you click on Connect or Disconnect and select your Wireless Network what happens?

My husband was given an old Dell laptop and it has a Lynksys Wireless Adapter card in the side, model WPC54G, and I am unable to connect it to my netgear router?

Does the laptop detect the WiFi of the netgear router ? If not, plug a PC to the router and access the interface to ensure that the SSID is not hidden.

If the WiFi is detected, the problem might be with the security key used. Again, in the interface, note down the security key, in the wireless section of the router. Then, when attempting to connect to the WiFi, enter the security key as noted (Capital letters if any, etc).

You might also try to configure the WiFi connection manually, without using the wizard.

Another issue might be conflicting software. If a software is installed by the manufacturer of the WiFi component, it may conflict with Windows' WiFi manager. You will have to indicate to either Windows or the software to NOT manage network connections, then use the other (i.e. if you tell Windows not to manage wireless networks, you will have to use the manufacturer's software)

Why doesn't my Wireless G USB Adapter (version3) work with Windows 7?

What is the exact model number of your wireless adapter?

You may refer to this link for a compatible list of devices with Windows 7.

Also, please refer to this link on how to manually install the drivers.

If you are using the WUSB54GC v3, this will work with Win 7 using the Windows Vista driver.

Below are drivers that you may download from the Linksys website for WUSB54GC v3.
Windows 7 Driver 11/09/2009 Ver.3.00.01(32-bit)Windows 7 Driver 09/11/2009 Ver.3.00.01 (64-bit)

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I use 2wire 1701 HG Gateway for 3 computers. I have been using a Plug and Play network with a password. My primary computer harddrive crashed. I had the drive replaced, but I have been unable to reconnect...

Hello hopefully ican hel solve your issue i have a 2wire modem myself ans have found that 2wire products are very picky. To answer your question for 2wire products when you try to connect wirelessly it wants you to type in the wep key which is the serial number of the product otherwise you are unable to connect. Now as far as losing your password if you are able to get into the 2wire product via browser so you can bring up the main software page you can try to see if you can get too any info that relates to resetting your info like username and password. Otherwise do a search for your product and search forums and you will most likely find someone that has had to recover there info and they will tell you how they do it. Good luck
