Squirt fuel in and it will run but not keep running when not squirting

The main fuel jet in the carburetor is probably blocked. You can disassemble the carb and remove the bowel and use a very fine wire to poke through the jet. Use spray Carb cleaner also to make sure no gunk is in there. Reassemble and all should be well

If you can keep the engine running by squirting fuel in the carb then it's still got a problem with fuel not getting to the cyl.
Could be a bad fuel pump.

Why wontsmart carb engine start if primed runs for few seconds


dirt or water in the carby jets
priming it just puts a squirt of fuel in the manifold and that is the initial start run

fuel float stuck --- need carburator repair -- to check it has spark then pull spark plug --- if wet blow off spark plug and check spark on plug then squirt a small fuel out of oil can into plug hole and put plug back in -- if engine fires on first pull carburator needs fixing -- check by squirting fuel in carburator with oil can and see if you can keep it running

Would a faulty electric fuel pump relay be the reason there is no power going down to the fuel pump in a 2002 suzuki grand vitara 2.0 rhz diesel engine


To test fuel flow, have a 2nd person stand over air filter (air filter housing open) with a can of starting fluid in one hand. Don't give any throttle, then 2nd person gives 1-second squirt into air filter while you're turning starter motor (no throttle). When engine catches, immediately give one third to one half throttle. Just before it dies, 2nd person should give another short squirt of starting fluid to keep engine from dying. If throttle won't keep engine running and only starting fluid keeps it running, then yes, no fuel is going through fuel lines. Either its a fuel pump issue or maybe there's restriction because of clogged dirty fuel filter. If it starts but runs rough and has black exhaust smoke, then its clogged or dirty fuel injectors.

If it turns, then the battery is OK. Either spark plugs are not firing in proper order (wrong firing order), no power to spark plugs, or no fuel because of fuel restrictions (dirty fuel filter). Inspect the air filter to ascertain its not clogged air. If you smell gas, then you saturated the spark plugs, which is why it refuses to run.
Let it sit for half hour to let spark plugs dry. Inspect to ascertain its not dirty spark plugs, which will also prevent engine from running. After ascertaining its proper firing order, spark plugs are clean, and there's power to distributor cap, ascertain there's fuel in fuel lines by squirting half second (short squirt) of starting fluid into air filter. Close the air filter housing to trap flammable starting fluid gas. Turn engine without giving throttle. Let starting fluid be ignited by spark plugs. If it won't start, then spark plugs are not firing to ignite starting fluid gas. If it starts briefly, but won't run when you give throttle, but catches when a 2nd person squirts more starting fluid into air filter just before engine stalls, then its a fuel restriction issue or no fuel in fuel lines.

squirt some gas in the carb and start it up it will only run for a few secs so quickly keep squirting gas in ,but not to much as to flood it and that should burn the diesel out and shortly it should keep running

Hello rino.... Make sure you have fresh fuel in the tank, a new spark plug, and a new air filter. Then get that can of starter fluid and a helper. Have the helper continue to squirt a little starter fluid into the air intake after you have removed the air filter. Keep spraying until the engine runs for a couple of minutes and takes off on it's own.

IF after a few minutes of doing this drill with the starter fluid it still won't run on it's own you then have no choice but to disassemble the carb. and clean it. Joe

97 sunfire 2.2l, changed fuel pump, now injectors keep squirting fuel after engine is turned off, also floods out and dies after few moments running


fuel pressure regulater or relay is going bad or a fuel return problem check hoses going back were u done repair good luck

Honda 160cc mower engine starts and dies.


Your carbeurator is crudded up. Get a can of aerosol carbeurator cleaner at any auto parts store. Remove the air filter and spray two squirts of cleaner into the air intake. Start the engine and keep it running by squirting more carb. cleaner into the air intake. WIth a little patience you will clean your carb. and solve your problem.

POULAN PRO 295: RUNNING VERY STRONG, FOR OVER AN


Remove the air filter, squirt a little fuel into the carb. Start and let run if it will for a few minutes. Could be you had some water in old fuel. and it is still in the intake of saw. If it still will not run after squirting some fuel into carb. You have a firing problem.
