Do you have heat in the Dryer still? If not and you have the smell the heating element probably blew a fuses due to lint build up. or the heating element itself is bad.

I have a Kenmore Electric Series 80 Dryer that the drum inside won't turn but it heats up and smells hot like something is burning. I can however turn it manually.

Remove the top and the front panel to remove the drum after you purchase a belt and teh idler pulley that Sears selles for your dryer. The pulley's bearing has froze up causing the belt to burn up and falling off

The drum wont go around and it smells like its burning.

if you can turn the drum by hand it may be the motor start capacitor.fitted just above the motor if you cant turn the drum one of the drum seals will have jammed the drum the belt will have snapped as well.

Drum smells

Open the door and run your hand deep inside the door seal. It probally has a slime around it. You can clean this with a bleach water mix. You might need to pull the seal somewhat inside out to get it real clean. Then run an empty load to flush it all out. Here is a link for replacing the seal or spring clips if you pull one off.

Washing machine filled with water, started agitating, then stopped. smells electrical.

Washing machines are built, sealed so that water or any other liquid that enters into the drums, dryer compartments will be isolated and not penetrate to the electrical system of the unit. There are protections to the motors installed beneath. To give you an idea, a motor mostly installed on it is a split-capacitor single phase motor which is protected by a fuse, thermal overload sensor to prevent burning the winding. A possibilty of electrical burning smells is that, a possibility that the thermal protection of the motor winding didn't open or activate. So that the winding may have been burnt and i'm sure your machine will stop immediately. There is also that timers which are cam driven, there is a strip on the timers and switching between clockwise and counterclockwise rotationion is done here. There is also a possibility that this switches strip may have been warp and burning would have occured due to uneven contact points already, carbonization inside this switches would take place, and your machine would stop. I hope this will help, thanks

Dryer heats drum does not turn stopped when too wet of clothes were inside. Smells bad too.

1.  Check the tension on the belt pulley.
2.  Check the belt. If it is worn, replace it.
3.  Check the felt around the front of drum (if applicable). Again, if too worn, replace it.
4.  If there is a chirping sound too, check the drum's roller bearings (the look like little wheels. The may need to be replaced too.

Most of these fixes are relatively inexpensive, and parts can be found at your local appliance parts store. (Given the date of this posting, I hope someone else helped prior to me...)

When the dryer is running it smells like charcol ligher fluid

Sometime recently there has been a petroleum product used in the house. Possibly an oil based paint, stain, varnish, adhesive or some form of cleaning product.

Anyone of these products or many others like them, contain a distillate of liquid. Check around the house.

Until that oil based product dries or cures, the odor and vapors will remain and so will the dryer smell.

At the end of the drying cycle, use the air fluff cycle to purge out the smell. Besure to return the selector on the dryer back to it's prior postition.

Water inside the drum

there may be a foreign object that is partially blocking the drain from the outer drum. open the back and remove the drain hose connection from the drum. Using a long screwdriver as a test prod, carefully try to feel this foreign object. Also try to look up into the drain outlet using a flashlight and mirror.
