I'm not able to adjust screen brightness on my kindle - there is no lightbulb icon in the tool bar. I'd like to read at night, is there a way to adjust screen brightness?

Is the Kindle a Paper White version, or akin to the original Kindle version? If so, there is no backlight, so no screen brightness adjustment. You'll have to do the screen brightness adjustment like you would for a book.

I reset my kindle and cannot get table of contents. I am showing the covers of the books instead of listings.

It sounds like you might be looking at the Kindle Store.

Try touching the top of the screen. This should cause some icons to display. Touch the Home icon. You should then see a list of books that are stored locally. If the reset wiped them all out and they don't show then you'll have to touch the top of the screen again and then touch *Cloud* after connecting to 3G or Wi-Fi and select the books from your Cloud that you want back on your device.

Forgot passcode

Kindle Fire:
If you can't remember your lock screen password or PIN, you will need to reset your Kindle Fire.

Important: Resetting your Kindle Fire will remove your personal information (including your lock screen password or PIN), Amazon account information, and downloaded content and apps. Any content you purchased from Amazon is automatically saved to the Cloud. You can download that content when you register your Kindle Fire to your account again.

  1. From the lock screen, slide the Unlock Bar from right to left.
  2. Enter characters into the prompt ten times. You will receive several warning messages. Dismiss the warning messages, and continue entering characters into the prompt.

After you've entered the incorrect password or PIN ten times, your Kindle Fire will reset.

Kindle Paperwhite:

If you can't remember the passcode for your Kindle you'll need to reset your device.

  1. Transfer from a Computer to Your Kindle Paperwhite.
  2. You can't reset your Kindle Paperwhite if Parental Controls are set. If you forget your password, reset your Kindle by entering "111222777" as the Parental Controls password.

Important: Resetting your Kindle will remove all content downloaded to it. Any content that is already saved to Your Kindle Library in the Cloud will remain in the Cloud. You can download that content again if you register your Kindle to your account again.

    1. From Home, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Settings.
    2. Tap the Menu icon again, and then tap Reset Device. Your device will power off and power back on.
To use your Kindle again, you'll need to connect wirelessly and register your Kindle.
