clay tiles have little more lifespan than that of concrete. While clay tile is only popular in its red color, concrete tiles are available in wide range of colors. Clay tiles break easily but concretes do not. But both concrete and clay tiles are the pinnacles of beauty.
The Cooking Tagine Cooking tagines may look the same as a serving tagine so it is important to purchase your tagine from a reliable source. If you are buying online make sure the description states that the tagine was designed for cooking. Cookable clay tagines are made from a different clay body that is a refractory clay (clay with a melting point above 1600C); designed to take the heat of cooking without shattering. While many of the cooking tagines tend to be simple solid colors and overall less decorative that is not always the case.
Some cooking tagines have "steam release" holes in the lid. Hand made, rather than manufactured tagines may not have a steam hole because the lid does not fit tight to the base and steam can release during the cooking process. Manufactured tagines are more apt to have tight fitting lids and require the steam hole.

"If your clay is just a little dry or firm, it may only require the
addition of Sculpey Clay Softener to reconstitute it (about 6 - 8 drops
per 4 oz clay or 2 - 4 drops per 2 oz clay).The Clay Softener will not restore clay once it has become very hard
or after it has been baked. If the clay is already crumbly, it has
either had too much exposure to heat or old enough to have already
undergone some chemical changes. At this stage, it cannot be

1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Remove all pots and pans from the
oven. The clay gives off smoke that adheres to the pots and pans.
2. Place the modeling clay on a baking sheet and set it in the oven. Place it on the bottom shelf of the oven to give more room overhead. To prevent the clay from sticking to the baking sheet, place parchment paper on top of the baking sheet. Once you are finished, it is safe to use the baking sheet for cooking again, just wash it off with warm water and dish soap.
3. Wait at least 20 minutes and check on the clay. Touch the Rose Art clay
to see if it is still soft. Larger, thicker clay pieces take longer to
bake, so if the clay is still soft place it back in the oven
4. Check the clay every 10 minutes until the entire piece is hard. Once hard, remove it from the oven and allow it time to cool.
