Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

# The top speed of a small plane is 180mph, in still air. One windy day, the plane flew 100 miles into the wind at top speed, in the same length of time it took to fly 135 miles with the wind, at top speed. Write an equation, and solve it to find the speed of the wind. Round your answer to the nearest tenth, if necessary, and five your answer as a complete sentence.

Suppose the length of time taken is T and the wind speed is W. Also we will assume that the ground speed of the plane is exactly its top speed plus or minus the wind speed, with no losses anywhere. So

(180 - W) * T = 100
(180 + W) * T = 135

180T - WT = 100
180T +WT = 135

360T = 235 so T = 0.653 hrs or 39.17 min

Now subtract equation 1 from equation 2

2WT = 35 This is the equation you ask for in your question

W = 35 / 2 / 0.653 or 26.8 mph

Check this

(180 - 26.8) * 0.653 = 100 OK

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
Goodluck!

it would be 13.2 because you just use the hundreths place which is another 2 and tells you to leave it the same

Hello,
Doesn't any body do their homework anymore? How are they supposed to learn anything?
Draw your graphs by hand or on a graphing calculator.
Think about the intersection points. (What does that mean when two curves intersect?)
Use the equation for the demand to obtain D for a particular x.
You can also determine by how much one function exceeds another for a particular value of the x variable (the graph is rather clear).
I assume you can solve a quadratic equation.
Use these hints to solve the problem.
Here is a graph. I even restricted it to the first quadrant so as not to mislead you into giving meaningless answers.

.

Hope it helps.

It sounds like you need a 4 wheel alignment they must have messed up the alignment and tightening things will not fix that you can take it anywhere that can do a 4 wheel alignment though I would make sure the dealership pays for it.
Thanks,
Lee

### I can hear the wind blowing extremely noisy from my gas fire /chimney

It is not likely blowing from the fireplace, rather your hearing outside wind noise through the chimney pipe.
On windy days this is normal.
The noise can only be limited by the flue pipe damper and the length of the pipe.

### When it get's really windy our pilot light get's blown out, we have a mobile home and want to know if the chimney should be raised

That's certainly a possibility, and there are caps/baffles you can add to the top that may divert wind as well.

But are you certain it's wind coming down the pipe? Make sure you don't have any other drafts that are making it into the unit at another location. If it's really windy and you cover the top does the flame still flicker at all? You might want to check that before you put in time and expense on raising the height and/or adding a rain/wind difuser on top... just to make sure. I lived in a mobile home a time or two, and they're notorious for those little gaps and leaks.

Good luck!

### Smell gas leaking out on windy days, pilot is still lit though

it sounds like the flue pipe out side may have something blocking it , it has a fresh air return on it and when the unit is blowing out it also pulls in the outside air, make sure ther is nothing in the way making the air circulate back in,

### Took me on a 2 lane route for 100 miles instead of freeway!

These things are miles from perfect. However, if you knew of the freeway route, you should have taken it. Remember, a PND is only useful when you don't know where you are and can often be confusing if you're using it to direct you to place that you know.
