SOURCE: My TOSHIBA laptop won't turn on

flashing three times means something physically wrong with ur laptop. could be fault with ur power supply, Hard drive or ram.
- with the battery, plug in ur power supply and check if ur LED is glowing and the laptop is charging well.
if the problem persists,
- reset the RAM and the Hard drive, [ for this take out the ram and Hard drive and put them back again].
if still the problem persists, take it to repair. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- u dont have to worry bout the backup in ur laptop. a simple solution would be to get a 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure, install ur harddrive into that, connect it to a different computer and back it up!, but be sure what type of Harddrive u have , is it a IDE harddrive or a SATA harddrive.

SOURCE: I put a 1gb expansion

Remove the 1 gig chip. Pull you battery out and unplug the laptop. Hold the power button in for 10 seconds. Put the battery back in and plug the laptop back in again and try booting it up. This should reset the BIOS and allow it to boot. The beep codes you are talking about are a memory beep code and it is normally caused by adding memory or a loose memory stick. Also try pulling the existing memory and resetting it.

SOURCE: I have an Acer 6920

Hello Carla, It seems that there is a power problem, only it's not very clear where exactly it lies. Does the laptop power up with the battery only (unplugged from the power supply)? If it does, then it's probably a power supply problem and that could be replaced rather cheaply with a new one. If it doesn't start using the battery only, then it's most likely a problem on the laptop itself, which means it should be serviced by someone with the appropriate technical skills.

Power Light Flashes 5 Times Won't Boot Up

If it uses AMI bios then 5 short beeps means motherboard failure.
  1. Remove RAM memory, Graphics card, other Plug-in cards, and Drive cables from your mainboard.
Only CPU + Fan + Power cable are installed on the mainboard.
  2. Power on the PC, and listen to the beeps:
    • no beeps => Power supply, CPU, mainboard or BIOS is most likely defective.
    • some beeps => remember the beeps and next step.
  3. Power off the PC, and insert the RAM memory.
  4. Power on the PC, and listen to the beeps:
    • no beeps => RAM incorrectly installed.
    • same beeps as before => RAM is most likely defective.
    • beeps have changed => next step.
  5. Power off the PC, and insert the Graphics card.
  6. Power on the PC:
    • some beeps => Graphics card is most likely defective.
    • blank screen =>Graphics card is most likely defective.

With power button push in the light comes on and fan comes on but in 5 seconds it turns off. I've tried with battery out and just with power plug , still the same results.

Can be one of the following
  • Remove battery and power lead - press and hold the power ket for 60 seconds. put in power lead and it may start.
  • If you are getting beeps or lights flashing then you have a Power On Start up Test (POST) error. This means you have a hardware failure in the system. The actual error depends on the motherboard and the error beeps. Solutions vary depending on the error, can be from replace memory to motherboard is shot. Please let me know if you are getting beep codes, this may need professional repair.
  • Does not start and no beep codes, then the power or the motherboard has failed, this will need professional repair.

Explain what you mean when you say 'when i open the pc from main switch'.
Also, something you should try is updating the CMOS, or in other words flashing the BIOS firmware. Go to your motherboards manufacturers website and see if there are any BIOS updates for it.

Beep - Beep - Beep - but No Picture

1. If the camera can not focus on a subject, or can not determine the appropriate exposure setting, the camera will beep and disable the shutter button. This is to avoid improper processing of the image. This is usually due to either poor lighting conditions or movement. 2. The camera Flash Element requires ten seconds to recharge between images. Although the camera is ready to continue capturing images almost immediately in bright (daylight) settings, if you are using Flash photography the Flash element will need to charge between shots. If you try to take a picture before the Flash is charged, the camera will beep and disable the shutter button. Once the Flash unit is fully charged (10 seconds), the camera is ready to continue. 3. The batteries may be running low. LCD Display, Flash, and Playback use much more power than taking pictures. It is possible to quickly consume battery power, even if you are not taking many pictures. Try turning the Mode Dial to the OFF position to recycle power. If the camera beeps and will not take a picture under normal conditions, you may need to change batteries. Please refer to the section pertaining to Battery Life.
