HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

There are a few factors that could contribute to your vacuums brush roll not turning. The first thing you should check is the brush roll itself.

For the most part you can fix a brush roll with a quick cleaning or by oiling it's bearings, however, once the bristles endure too much wear and tear, it is time to replace it. Do you notice any hair strands wrapped around the brush roll, how about long strands of carpet fiber or general debris? Try manually rotating the brush roll and cutting away any strands that may be caught. take a look at your brush roll and see how the bristles look. If they look worn out and the bristles look loose it's time to replace it.

Also, be sure to check your belt. Your vacuums belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roll. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roll's turn rate, speed and can lead to the brush roll not turning at all.

Most likely the belt that connects the motor to the brush has broken and needs to be replaced. A relatively easy fix.

Try to turn the brushes by hand. If they won't turn remove the brush assembly to see if it is seized, if it is, take it apart and clean the brushes and the gears. If it is nor seized the turbine might be seized.

The brush has to be able to rotate freely in order to work. If you remove the roller and its end caps you may find it is clogged with hair or other debris. Cleaning out the debris should allow the brush to rotate freely.

I have a Dyson Telescope vacuum. Everything works fine, except the attachment used for floors. I can feel air and suction going through the attachment, but the brush doesn't rotate or move at all....

If you have suction as you say, the tool is faulty.
They come apart so you can clean them. remove all hair and debris from the roller brush (use a coin to split it using a quarter turn on the two/three screws). Try turning the brush with your fingers. If it is stiff, it needs attention to the bearings in the tool probably. If it turns OK, then the mini turbine inside is faulty -- replace the tool.

The rotator brush stopped turning. it turns fine

The brush roll will only spin when your handle is not in the locked upright position, once the handle goes upright - the brushroll de-activates

Brushes don't spin

Remove the bottom cover and replace the broken drive belt. Check that the brush will rotate freely--likely everything is jammed with hair and dust. The brush assembly should just lift out of the case and the end bearings will pull off. The brush needs to be removed to install a new belt anyway. There should be a diagram that shows how to install the belt (it has a half-turn twist).

Rotating brush will not turn on my Dyson DC07

Yes I had the same problem on my animal Dysom. There is a button on the top of the dysom that turns the cacuum on. Right beside that button is another one that turns on and off the brush!!! Good luck!!! I accidently one day bumped that button and couldn't get my brush to work but after troubleshooting it, that was my solution.

Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.
