It is common for the light circuit trace to blow out if the light bulbs shorted out when removed while energized. If the trace is good then there could be a bad light relay

SilverCrest Microwave SMW 800 A1 Bulb replacement instructions please

You have to remove the outer cover but be aware that after removal you are exposing yourself to potentially lethal voltages even with power removed. Remove the old lamp and install the new lamp you have kept on hand for this occasion. Reinstall the cover but test operation before reinstalling all hardware in case the replacement lamp does not work.

I have a qasair rangehood (uv-1200-2) with 2 lights. The lights have not worked for a year or so. I have now replaced them (following http://www.qasair.com.au/images/installation_inst/QAIInstr_Lamp.pdf )...

First, turn off power to the rangehood. Check the contact resistance of the light switch(es) with an ohmmeter. It should be less than 0.1 Ohms. If you get a substantially higher resistance in the on position, the switch contact is burned out. Also, inspect the wiring harness connector and the connections to the light fixtures. If they show signs of overheating, the connection resistance is too high. You can try polishing the connector contacts to remove oxidation. I use a pencil eraser for mild cases and a non-metallic dry scouring pad (3M Scotch-Brite) for more severely tarnished contacts. In the worst case it will be necessary to replace the terminals or connector.

According to the drawing for this series on the Qasair website, the unit uses fluorescent lamps rather than the halogen lamps referred to in the lamp installation instructions. If this is true, it is likely the ballast has failed (if the lamps have separate switches, they probably have separate ballasts also). If the original ballast model is no longer available, make sure the replacement has at least as high a maximum temperature rating as the original. This is especially critical for electronic ballasts. You can extend the life of the new ballasts by making sure the fans are running before turning on the lights - this should reduce the ambient operating temperature inside the hood.

The light dows not work on my Sharo R254 microwave everything else is working. I gather all I need to do is change the light bulb but cannot find in the manual how to do it and what light bulb to...

Replacement of the lamp should be carried out by a qualified appliance repair service.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT!

Attempt this only if you are competent.

But here is a basic method if you are mechanically minded and have electrical safety knowledge.

The lamp is sat in a housing and its position is adjacent to the vent holes that it shines through.
If you feel confident, disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity.
Remove the microwave cover. Purchasing a new replacement lamp will be useful as it will give you an idea of what it looks like. Locate the dead lamp remove the lamp and fit the new one. Replace the covers. Plug it back in and try the lamp by opening the door.
Hope this helps.

Microwave MCD1611ST light went out. Where can I get new lamp & what type model # does it need? ALSO how do you locate the lamp area, do you have to take entire cover off ?

You do need to take the cover off to access the lamp. BE sure to UNPLUG the power cord first!. Remove the screws around the back panel(four Torx T20 screws),and carefully slide the case back and off. The lamp is right behind the control panel. Be very careful not to touch any wire connectors or other componets as these units have a capacitor and hold a very high voltage charge even with the power cord unplugged!

Once you get the lamp out you can go to most hardware stores or appliance parts shops and they can match the correct lamp for you.

I have a Whirlpool model MH6151XHT-1 which has two light bulbs. The cavity light quit working in either high or low. Upon checking the lamps, one was bad. I switched the socket position of the good lamp...

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sounds like you should get estimates and turn in on homeowners insurance. Power surges are very destructive and you have lost the control board at least and maybe some switches. Eric

Maytag MMV5165AAS work surface light won't work. I bought a new light and replaced the old one but it still will not turn on. THe microwave display goes thought the cycle of High, Low, Off but nothing...

If the lamp socket has power (and it's the right voltage) and the replacement lamp is the correct one and tests good, then the trouble is in the socket. It may have been damaged when the original lamp went "poof." Check for damaged contacts (burnt or broken off). Also, make sure you're seating the lamp correctly in the socket. If the bulb is a push-and-turn ("bayonet") type, you may be facing it the wrong way and it's not going all the way in.
