Why is my Powerbolt 1000 unit beeping?

This is the relevant excerpt from the Powerbolt programming and troubleshooting instructions:

"To determine why your lock is beeping abnormally, please follow these steps:

Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
If it does not beep, the keypad needs to be replaced (17733-1).
If the unit continues to beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced (A17734-3,3 Powerboard 1470 brass finish; A17734-3,26D Powerboard 1470 satin chrome finish; A17734-3,5 Powerboard 1470 antique brass finish)."

Since you've already gone through the battery change, try the battery remove-reinstall recommended above. If that doesn't work for you it suggests that you need to replace the appropriate Powerboard for your lock.

Ked pad dont work gives a long beep if i try for a while

My pwerbolt is about 3 years old and has stopped working. I changed batteries and it worked about three times and does not respond when pressing the "lock" button or unlock when locking...

How long should I expect my lock to last? It is app. 3 years old will only lock & unlock app. 3 or 4 times then dies when the batteries are replaced... The batteries still have a full charge.when...

My lock works for awhile then stops. The beeps sound all the time, then stops locking & unlocking using the keypad. Then a day or two it works again.

Even after i replace the batteries, the unit keeps beeping and then the keypad stops working

Locks up and screen freezes. Will work after I push on it.


I think 6 flashes means memory issue. You might want to try and remove and re-insert the memory. Usually found underneath in a compartment held in with 1 screw. If this don't work, I would try and purchase new memory. This would be the cheapest and first thing to eliminate.

Touchpad on my 8200 insprion stop working


Try to test it using 32 bit diagnostic

tap F12 (just after Dell Splash Screen)
select Diagnostic partition
wait for test to finish
select Custom test (may need to use TAB and ENTER)
select pointing device

if it work here, it is likely a driver issues - got to support.dell.com and download latest pointer drivers (Alps under Input Devices?) You may as well do this first since it is easier than testing see http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_8200

If it does not work her, you'll need to pop it open and see if cables are tight, if they are the touchpad is broken and you'll need a replacement palmrest (included the palmrest)

see the manual at support.dell.com for info on disassembling your model if required.
