SOURCE: Technics SA-DX950 intermitently sounds blown out

There are poor solder connections at the output amp pacs and the voltage regulators. Once these are resoldered the problem should go away. If you can solder, resolder any connections that appear grainy or have rings. If you can not, this should be effectively a labor only repair for any shop that works on audio gear.

SOURCE: Max. wattage for speakers w/ Technics Receiver SA-GX100?

I too have a Technics SA-GX100 and it's rated at 2 x 40W @ 8 Ohms. I have the Technics SB-2840 floor model speakers hooked to it, which are rated at 200W Music Input - 8 ohms. It sounds very nice just to be a 40W receiver.

You don't say what part of you stereo. If you can access the parts with the polish in them and clean them with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol, you may recover it.

All sources or just one? Make sure the Tape Monitor isn't engaged unless you're using an external tape deck or processor. A turntable will only work on the PHONO input.

Have you noticed if the speakers selector switch in the front panel is set to off ? That position for the switch is only suited to listen heaphones. Good Luck.

Try to turn it on with volume knob at zero position. That might work well.

On switching my technics sa-dx750 it says switching off overload

The question is what is causing the overload? The power supply or the output devices on the heat sink?
If you have accidently shorted a speaker wire, then the answer will be output devices, otherwise it could be anything in the power section. You may find a burnt or damged device with either of the causes.

This happens on mine also. My theory is a relay. If you turn the volume up (Waaay up) momentarily, you "burn through" the oxidation on the relay and the sound comes back - for awhile. Some day, I'll get in there and replace it with something more robust.
