How do I hard reset a Vivitar DVR 980 camcorder?

After turning on the unit, I can see the backlight on the LCD turn on. The actual icons and stuff flash on for a second then go away. I can still see the backlight, I can press buttons on the LCD touchscreen and hear responsive feedback, but nothing is shown on the LCD from this point. I'd like to try hard resetting the camcorder to see if that helps.

sorry to say but the problem of your camera is the ccd image sensor....go to a service center for replacing it...

You may have to do a hard reset. You hold one finger at the power and the other hand hold your stylus and his reset. This technique is applied to most PDA.

after reading the above solution, a few swift taps to the bottom got it to work. I guess it is just be careful, but if it happens - show it some tough love

The flash doesn't work for videos, only for still photos. If you need a light for videos then you'll need a separate light.

You need to check the powerpack voltage AND whether it's AC or DC. If DC, the polarity needs to be correct too.

Most likely your Vivitar needs a new battery....if you've lost your a/c adapter-you can use a standard USB cable to charge your camera. Plug the smaller end into your Vivitar & the larger end into your turned on PC/laptop & it'll charge the battery.

The install CD and cable should be included in box w/camera...
Vivitar brand was recently bought out by Sakar last year (August 21st, 2008) which means support is likely discontinued. I have the installation CD. One upside of cheap consumer stuff is buying direct online - from China! Check ebay, the cable looks generic enough.

Battery wont charge
This camera not charged via PC, you can charge the battery only with wall charger(comes with box).When camera is plugged to PC, you can´t use it as a camera, only as a memory card.You can watch your stuff in PC( PC recognise a camera as a flash memory, no more).

So, this is normal..Charge your camera with wall charger(Full charge Red light not flash!, if light flashed camera is charging) Unplug and use as usually!

Sorry to hear that!
The only thing I would sugest is to pull the battery (and leave it out for 24 hours (or longer)) to try to reset the camera. But I would guess that the LCD stoped working and the white screen you see is the back lit screen mounted behind the LCD.
