When you put a new fuel pump on whatever type mower you are working on,yes its good to prime it a little so that your not cranking the juice out of your battery and easier on starter.when you prime it ,myself I put the new fuel pump on,and I pull the plug out and put a little fuel in cylinder head so when it fires it pump the fuel up faster to your carb! good luck!

I have rebuilt the carburetor on a 16HP Briggs and Stratton Vagaurd. But can not get gas to engine, it runs when I pour gas in the carburator, What could be the issue.

Have you checked to make sure the float level is set correctly, or that the float isn't sticking, not allowing fuel in?
Are you pouring fuel into the top of the carby, or syphoning it in via the fuel inlet?

Have 22HP BS V-Twin in a 2010 Husqvarna rider w/25 total hours. Recently won't cold start without priminig. It will crank and crank cold til the battery runs down. A shot of starting fluid and it runs...

nearly all petrol mower engines need to have the 'choke' engaged to start from cold. This enriches the fuel mixture, and is similar to priming. If there is a prime 'button' then you will probably have to use this all the time. This is normal.

However, you should check with your dealer to see if this is an unusual situation.

Engine runs for a short time then dies, replaced plugs, air filter, in line gas filter, and rebuilt fuel pump

I had a B&S lawn mower engine that did this unless I kept pushing on the prime button and I found I had a Cracked primer rubber bulb. Maybe you have something similar or another type or carb problem.
