Question about Garden
I pulled a plug apart that was in the area of the transmission shifter up under the dash below the gas tank on mine . Mine is an MTD make but this might give you an idea. I pulled a couple of plugs apart and tried then replaced the ones that I did not want apart.
When new it wouldn't let me back up with blades in gear. I understand this is a safety issue.

maybe the safty switch under seat might be starting to go out if that switch doesn't work the blades wont come on at all for safety

Look under the seat of your tractor and note the complete Model number.
(usually begins with 917. _ _ _ _ _ _ )
Next, go to THIS PAGE and use the Model Number to find an exploded view of the steering components and how they assemble.
