SOURCE: 47in tevion LCD wall mounted tv.i have to leave tv switched on .and kept on standby.???faulty main switch on tv ???solution

This sounds like a very common issue.

If set is hard to turn on (takes several tries)but will eventually turn on hereis what my guess would be.

Every set has a standby power supplythat is running 7/24 if the set is plugged in and it supplies voltage to theremote circuit that turn on the main power supply for the tv and hence turn theset on.

This is an area where companies cut corners by using lower rated voltage caps.By this I mean Standby usually provides under 10 volts to trigger the seton----what they do is use filter caps rated at say 10 volts max in a circuitwith 9 volts (example)=with the standby on all the time the filter caps(electrolytic caps) dry out and fail.

The problem usually begins where you have to turn set on or or two times andgradually gets worse--takes longer and more tries to get it to come up.

Once on it will stay on until turned off for a period of time.

The caps will begin to work better (regain some of thecapacitance) as they get hot--hence one it is on it will seem ok.

The beauty of this problem is most of themhappen when set is a year or two old (no warranty) and all you have to do islook at the top to locate bad ones.

They are generally black or blue and round and vary in --they have twoconnections each--a + for positive and a - for negative--not unlike a batterywhich in a way they are. The + and - are marked on top and bottom of most boards.

They are easy to replace and not expensive parts.

The tops are silverand metal looking with creases on top and if bad they will be puffed up ontop---tops must be perfectly flat with no brown material leaking top or bottom.

If this is your problem once you id them (make a drawing) you can begin.

Here is the critical part---on each cap is also marked the value like 220uf 10vdc---220 micro farad at 10 volts maximum.

If you find for example 6 puffed up and all are 10 vdc replace them with thesame value capacitance (like the 220 uf) but go up to at least in this case(from 10 volts) to a 16 or higher rated voltage cap.

The only issue is when you go up in voltage rated value the cap is larger sosometimes there is an issue of physical space for the replacement on the boardto fit them in.

The reason they cheapen these sets in this way is if 10 caps and you make25,000 sets there is a considerable savings in parts cost.

They do not care as long as it lasts past the usual one year parts warranty.

I have taken the time to be long winded because this really sounds like it maybe the problem you have.

See attached photo of a typical cap and if you have questions or need advicelet me know.4_16_2012_10_54_17_pm.jpg

At the very least look at power supply board to see if puffed up on top caps like these which are bad.

Tdk cd player stereo system stuck on standby. the red standby light is on the only thing I have done since it was last working yester day is remove and reinsert the speakers from the unit.

Try resetting by leaving disconnected completely from the mains for 2mins. Throughout this time frame keep your finger pressed on the power/standby button.

Please my tv with on the standby mode when i try to put it back it couldn't the indicator now goes on and off with picture show please help

The standby light on a Sony television indicates when the television is turned on and operating, or turned off and in "standby" mode. However, this light also serves a secondary function: indicating when there is a problem with the television by flashing. When the standby light begins to flash, there are two reset options that can be performed to resolve whatever issue it's indicating -- a power reset and a factory reset

POWER RESET
1. Turn off your TV
  • 2. Unplug the television from the electrical outlet. If you're using a surge protector or power strip, disconnect the television from the strip itself. Only by disconnecting the power cord from the outlet can you ensure no power reaches the TV during the power cycle.
  • 3. Leave the television without power for at least 60 seconds. This gives the television enough time for all components to power down during the power cycle
  • 4. Plug the television back into the electrical outlet. If you're using a surge protector or power strip, plug the television directly into the wall outlet instead. The surge protector may otherwise interfere with the power-up cycle, especially if it is old or damaged.
  • 5. Turn on the television. If the blinking standby light continues, you'll need to move on to the factory reset process.

  • FACTORY RESET
  • 1. Turn on the television.
  • 2. Press and hold either the "Reset" or up arrow button on the remote control.
  • 3. Press and release the "Power" button on the front of the television, while keeping the "Reset" or up arrow button on the remote depressed.
    4. Release the "Reset" or up arrow button.
    5. Allow the television to reset after the "Reset" message appears on the screen.
    6. Make no adjustments to the television for at least one minute after the reset has completed. This is to allow the television time to finish auto-configuration and initial set up.
7.Turn off the television and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
    8. Wait ten seconds, then plug the television back into the electrical outlet and turn on the TV.
    9. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete setup. These are the instructions displayed the first time you set up the television, for configuring channels, menu language, time, display properties and more.

Can I leave my digihome tv plugged in during the day but not leave the tv on standby

Unless the TV has a proper on/off switch, when it's plugged in it's either in 'standby' or it's 'on' - those are your two choices!
Contrary to what we're being duped into believing, the energy consumption in standby is almost nothing, and you CERTAINLY won't see the difference in your leccy bills.

My evesham tv wont come on/ it appears to come on but few lights flash then it knocks straight back off

We had this problem, everytime we switched it off at the main plug, so when we could, we would leave it on standby. On this occasion we had to switch it off completely, but when we tried to switch it on again it wouldn't come on. So we put the t,v in another room, a much warmer room, and after leaving it for a few days hey presto it started to work again.

    Can't turn on

When you turn the MAIN off you are killing all power to the set---Some advice---If you Google the model number of this set with the word problem after it you should find what I have seen a lot in these sets: they develop bad solder connections on the power supply printed circuit board---usually the board is about 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide--A number of sites online offer to have you ship them the board and they will resolder it for you.
I have repaired about 12 of these with this problem in the last 2 years---The board has to be removed(there are quite a few plugs that need to be labeled and removed and lots of screws that secure the board in place.)

Maybe not a job for a do it yourself person but the soldering (if it is your problem) will take about 45 minutes(including removal and installing board back).

Like most modern sets this set uses lead free solder and it is soldered(the boards) in a wave or one step process---over time from heat and expansion some connections may crack or even break loose----I would look at the POWER SUPPLY board(follow the power cord as it goes right to it)

My thompson dtr box will not turn on now.it stays on an amber light and doesnt want to do anything else.1day it was fine, now its not.

    Message taken from TopUpTV
Does your Thomson DTi6300 fail to power on normally and displays a solid amber light? During the past few days we have been made aware of an issue affecting a number of our customers with a Thomson DTi6300 box. Customers have been experiencing problems with their box failing to come out of standby mode and typically showing a constant amber light on the front panel.

This fault is due to a broadcast issue which  has led to a corrupt file being loaded onto the hard disk.

Only Thomson DTi6300 boxes have been affected. If you have been experiencing problems of this nature first of all try switching your box off at the wall and leave for twenty seconds. If this does not work, please try the following procedure.

Please note this will unfortunately cause recordings in your programme library to be lost which we?re very sorry about. You may have to try this procedure a few times in order to resolve the issue as it requires complete attention and precise timing.

    1.       Disconnect the power supply from the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the box.
    2.       Wait 20 seconds and then put the power cable back in while pressing the 'standby/power on' buttonrepeatedly on the front panel of the box.
    3.       Release the standby button as soon as you see a light flash on the front of your box and thenimmediately press the arrow buttons on the front panel quickly and in the following sequence:  Up, Down, Left, Right (please note this is not the order the arrow buttons appear on the box).
    4.       Your box should then show the amber light with the green light flashing until the disk re-format has been completed which will take around 60 seconds. The box should return to a solid red light (standby) automatically. If after 2 minutes your box still does not display a solid red light, please repeat steps 1-4.
    5.       When you return to the TV GUIDE screen, you will now need to scan for channels to restore your Top Up TV channel logos. To do this, please select Option 4 (set-up) from the Main Menu, followed by option 1 (scan for channels).
    6.       IMPORTANT: Once you have completed your channel scan, you will need to select option 5 from the Main Menu (Choose your channels) to re-select all those channel providers you would like Top Up TV to download shows from.

We?re really sorry if you have been affected by this issue and greatly regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

It's not a solution but it may help. Mine will download on standby overnight but will then lose it all if left on standby during the day so switch it on in thew morning and leave it on all day. I'm waiting for a response from Philips.

I have occasional days where I can wait for 3 or 4 minutes for a button press to register be patient it works eventually!
