Question about Velbon DF-60 Tripod

1 Answer

How can I dissasemble the head of the tripod to clean it and lubricate it and what lubricant should I use for a smooth panning?

The tripod is new. I used WD-40 to lubricate it but the head still doesn't move nice and smooth. Sometimes gets a little bit stuck creating a jump on the video when panning.

Central shaft is stuck on my dolica tripod proline

Try completely removing the thumbscrew that retains its position, then spray a very little penetrating lubricant inside and see if that will loosen it.

How can I fix the jerky motion of the 804RC2? What kind of lubricant can I use on the head?

Parts and a diagram can be found here: http://www.manfrottotripodparts.com/head804rc2-3.html

Silicon grease in very small quantities is the best lube to use. DO NOT use oil or liquid lubes like WD-40. These will flow and make the head messy and may "wash" the other lubes away.

I can't get the ball head off my tripod. I've loosened the set screws at the base, but the head won't budge.

You can try this:
spray lubricant between ball head and base, wrap the ball head with a heavy rag( to help prevent scratches, use a pip wrench on ball head while someone else holds legs ( or also wrap legs in cloth and hold in vise). DO THIS AT OWN RISK

Head does tilt smoothly on 516. How do I get it smooth? Eric

Not fully understanding your question. You stated that the "head does tilt smoothly on 516. How do I get it smooth". What are you asking exactly? How to smooth out the pan as well, or how to make it tilt even smoother?

Make sure you are loosening the 3 grub screws under the tripod head to release it from the tripod center column. there are the 3 slotted screw heads under the grey part of the tripod head. Make sure you back them all the way out before you start to loosen the head.

Hitachi HB C103 bread machine pan seal

The problem isn't the seal, it is the bearing. You need to disassemble it, clean it, and lubricate it. Turn the pan upside down, and there's a C-ring that you need to pry off. Then you can tap the shaft through the bearing, and it will fall out. Clean the shaft and inside of the bearing, lubricate it, and reassemble.

I usually lubricate with vegetable oil, to avoid any chance of noxious contamination getting into the bread, but I've read a recommendation to use liquid graphite lock lubricant, available from NAPA Auto Parts, to prevent the bearing from sticking again as soon:
http://reviews.ebay.com/How-to-lubricate-your-bread-machine-pan-shaft-bearing_W0QQugidZ10000000016577277

BTW, be careful of that rubber seal -- they are apparently irreplaceable! (I need one, if you find a source.)

With what can I lubricate the legs onmy aluminum Mafrotto tripod?

Dear Winnieg,
I would avoid using a lubricant on your tripod legs, because you run the risk of the legs not tightening down anymore. I would try cleaning the tripod thoroughly first, because most of the time this is caused by dirt. If that dosen't work I would try rubbing on a small amount of candle wax onto the legs, and then wipe the legs down with a clothe.

Sincerely,
Allan
