Question about Microphones - Wireless (VHF/Other) Audio-Technica Cardioid Condenser Headworn Mic for A-T UniPak Wireless Systems TMP-AT-ATM75cW

Open Question

Audio Technica ATW-T602 wireless microphone does not broadcast a signal when used. Receiver operates well when another mic is used with it that is set with the same frequency. I am in Huntington, West

When you switch this Microphone on, the red indicator light by the on/off switch will come on and then go out fairly quickly and stay off. When you switch it off, the red light will briefly light and go off. When the mic is off, the red AF Peak light on the ATW-R600 Receiver will flash until the mic is turned on, and then it goes off. However, I still am not able to broadcast on this mic.

Add a Comment: Here are three more things. First, this is an ATW-602b handheld microphone, not the one shown in the picture by this post. Not sure how that got there, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it and put the correct picture in its place. Second, while trying to get this mic to work I discovered something new. When the mic is switched off, there is a red light that comes on flashing on the receiver while there is a loud, fuzzy sound or hiss until the mic is turned on. Third, I discovered that as long as I hold the mic upright, I can get some broadcast out of it, but when I tilt it to a horizontal position, it stops broadcasting. Talk about a "balanced system!". :)

My mic wireless mic sounds like it has a ground loop hum when it is in standy mode and when it is all the way on. I've switched cables and batteries what could be causing this hum?

You could try another power adapter on the receiver, maybe this one blew the filter capacitor. I doubt your problem being the mic, rather check the receiver. Luck !

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but those units are fixed frequencies and cannot be changed. You either have to find a mic that matches your receiver or vice-versa. The freeway 200 series comes in 3 freqs. two of witch you have with the addition of 170.245. Maybe you can find someone who has a damaged mic but still has the receiver with the freq. that you need for your mic.

Vocals disappear in parts using this mic

It is very common to have the squelch on the receiver set at full or much too high. With the audio output unplugged or at least turned all the way down, and with the transmitter turned off, locate the squelch control - you may need a screwdriver depending on which model of receiver you have. Turn the squelch control counter-clockwise until the TX light turns on, then turn it back up just past the point where it turns back off.
If you turn it all the way down and the TX light doesn't come on, that's okay. If you get blasts of noise occasionally when the transmitter is turned off, then set the squelch a little (only a little) higher until it stops.
