Temperature the burner shuts off but the ventillation does not stop. I was told the Oil Primary Control R8184G1393 is defective would this be correct?

It could be a bad circuit board but you would have to verify before replacing .

Why does my waste oil heater burner shut off after about 15-20 seconds of running?


Depends on if you have to manually reset the primary controller. You may have a bad CAD cell, primary controller, backdraft of exhaust, or high temperature limit tripping due to overheating from either a loose belt, bad blower motor or capacitor. If there is a fuel filter, that may also be somewhat stopped up.

Hello, I have a oil fired hot water heater, the motor comes on for about 30 seconds, and then stops running, I have oil and a flame, what do you think, thank you ,,,Greg


It sounds to me like it could be one of three things....

1. You have a poor quality flame. This could be caused by a dirty nozzle, or a lack or air. Ensure that the airband on the oil burner is not all plugged up with dust, lint, pet hair, etc..

2. You have a defective or dirty Cad Cell Eye/Assy. To check this you will need to turn the power to the water heater off. Loosen or remove the screws that hold the ignition transformer down to the burner. The transformer is hinged and should now swing open for you. With the transformer swung open you should see the cad cell assy. It is a round object most likely mounted on the transformer itself, in between the high voltage leads/contact. The eye itself will pull out of the assy. Use a clean cloth and wipe down the eye. Reseat into the socket and resecure the transformer. Turn power back on and test.

3. Bad Primary Control This would be the most costly of the problems, and would mean your control, located on the side of the burner needs to be replaced.

The final testing will require the use of an ohmmeter. Disconnect the two wires located on the side of the primary control, designated "FF".
These are most likely going to be yellow in color. Connect one wire to each side of the ohmmeter and turn the unit on. Your ohm reading will tell you the "strength" of the flame. The lower the number the better!
0-400 ohms is ideal; 400-800 is okay, anything above 1000 ohms means you need to replace the cad cell. Note: While perfoming this test place a jumper wire across the open "FF" teminals after the burner has fired up. (If done before the unit will not turn on). If the system shuts off on safety while perfoming your test (as long as you let it run over the 30 sec.) then you will know you have a bad primary control.

My oil burner trips the m.c.b, what is the cause?

If your oil burner stops running the first thing you should check is the reset button. If you press it and the burner fires up then that was the problem. If the button should trip again then there is a definite problem and you should schedule a service call immediately. Do not keep resetting the button and ignoring the problem. afg-redbut.jpg Now, what is this button and why does it trip? It is a safety device. It shuts the burner down when it thinks there is a problem. It is on the primary control and is hooked-up to a cad cell. A light sensor. (The same thing that turns outside lights on at dusk.)
On a call for heat, with the burner running, the cad cell senses the light of the flame. If it stops sensing the light of the flame, it causes the red button to trip, shutting down the burner before any significant damage is done. Next question. Why would the sensor stop sensing light while the burner is running? Many reasons. Almost all of which require a service call. Below is a list of possible causes and things to check. Items in blue usually require a service call. Items in red however can be addressed, even fixed by the homeowner.
  • Faulty or dirty cad cell
  • Faulty primary control
  • Bad or weak ignition transformer
  • Bad burner motor
  • Bad fuel pump
  • Blocked oil filter, strainer or nozzle
  • Delayed oil valve not opening (some units)
  • Cracked electrodes
  • Improperly set electrodes
  • Air in fuel line
  • Burner running with a very high smoke
  • Burner sooted-up
  • Loose electrical connections
  • Damaged flexible coupling
  • Water in oil tank

  • Out of oil - Have your tank filled
  • Chimney blocked - Have it cleaned
  • Closed oil valve - Open valve
  • Air, Pump not primed - Prime pump - may need to call for service

My oil burner blows smoke when it kicks on, then after 3 times it shuts down smoke test is good, new nozzle what else can i check?


There should be an air adjustment collar on the oil pump side of the burner. Give it a bit more air. Have you replaced the oil filter and oil pump strainer? Flip open the transformer on the top of the oil burner and look for a small black round cylinder. This is your Cad cell eye. Take a paper towel and polish the end that looks down the burner tube. You did not mention how long the unit fires prior to shutting down, could be a bad primary control.

Gas flow


Your regulater connected on tank has a shut down safety inside of it. disconnect tank hookup, then reconnect, always open tank valve slowely when you open to fast regulator thinks there is a leak and starts shutting down valve to slow leak. Opening slowely will solve your problem.

The oven keeps beeping. The burners work, but nothing works for the oven. If you press clear it stops for approx. 10 seconds and then starts beeping again.


Hi,

The major reason for this would be the control senses oven temperature above 615F-630F. shut down the breaker switch asap.
If actual over temperature condition occurred: Look for welded relay contacts on bake or broil relays. If this happens, replace oven control (also called clock or ERC).
If no over temperature condition occurred: Look for a high resistance connection or any other cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check sensor, sensor harness and sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if found defective.
Remember: Oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit , not actual oven temperature.

Boiler makes twitching sound and doenst stay on


If the boiler uses oil (#2 fuel diesel); there are several factors that could cause this problem:
* Lack of oil due to clogged oil filter or restricted oil line.
* Cad resistance greater than 1500 ohms.
* Defective Primary control.
* Shoot accumulated on the retention head.
* En pinching flame in combustion chamber.
* Collapsed combustion chamber into firing range.
* There are other reason not listed here.
* Some problems require expensive testing equipment to make an accurate diagnosis.

Pilot light


Assuming that your make up air and exhaust hood are properly balanced, no negetive pressure conditions exist, your gas manifold pressure is at 4" wc, your air/gas mix on the burner set correctly, the your problem would be the pilot adjustment. If the flame is not intense enough flame to survive the sudden air shock, it will go out.

The pilot height should be about 1 1/2". Your Pilot orfice could also need cleaning. Eliminate excessive draft in your kitchen.

Furnace wont start when thermostat sends signal


by restart button you mean reset i believe,its located on top of oil burner and says only push one time .if thats the button your pushing it is the reset button or retry for oil burner if you are pushing this there is a problem with burner
