The motor and trans do not come apart to replace the pull cord, just remove the cap and rewind the spool then replace the cord. Not a lot of disassembly required, just a couple of small bolts.

Briggs & Stratton 9000 diagram/repair manual. For the pull cord assembly. FREE

If you are going to be repairing B&S air cooled engines, may I suggest that you make a handy tool for repairing the pull cord starter. To access the pull cord assembly, remove the blower housing to expose the backside of the pull starter. All of the B&S pull start engines have a starter clutch that secures the flywheel to the crankshaft. These clutches go bad after a while. Go to a local repair shop and ask if you can have an old B&S starter clutch. Take it apart and keep the spindle. Have someone weld a T bar handle to the spindle. You will use this to reload the spring in the recoil starter, winding backwards to load the spring. Use a C clamp to hold it in place after loading the spring. Insert the new nylon pull rope through the grommet and out through the hole in the rope spool. Tie a figure 8 knot in the end of the new rope. Slowly release the C clamp to allow the spool to rewind, loading itself with new pull cord. You need about +/- 20 inches of pull cord. Replace the rubber handle on the pull cord and you are ready to mount to blower housing back on the engine. I hope this helps. PS. See the attached url for the Operator's Manual for the 9000 horizontal. http://www.tranzsporter.com/tpdf/Briggs%20&%20Stratton%209000.pdf

Windshield wipers not working, they were stuck on by ice and now just flopping

The coupling between the motor and wipers has broken. You will need to inspect and remove/ replace the broken part. You may need to buy a new motor.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply and remember, even if you don't vote for me a please and thank you goes a long way

Hi My Kenmore 80 Series washing machine was not agitating so I replaced the motor coupler it was shot. Coupler was on floor beneath machine. At that time there was no noises. I Put it back together and now...

I'd pull the cabinet and check the installation of the coupler again.

It's possible that if thew coupler wasn't fully seated on the motor or gearcase shafts, it is being torn apart by the motor.

See the following:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=135&osCsid=0da65cea0e338fe930b1fde153a243f0

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

How do I replace the pull cord? do you have a manual that shows the 'guts' of the blower so I can replace it myself? Thank you Kathleen

If the unit is a canister, you will have to take the plastic cover completely off exposing the motor and cord reel. The cord reel will come out by gently pulling right side away from the left of the casing. from there the two wires from the cord reel are attached to the PCB board by wire nuts you will find tucked next to motor.

If unit is upright with cord reel you will find the situation to be really similar to the canister, but you will have to remove a few more screws to get the casing off this one.

KENMORE WASHER FAN BELT REMOVAL AND Repalcement. I would like to see if there's instruction for removal and replacement of the fan belt. Thank you

Hello, from the limited information I have this sounds like it's going to be a broken coupling. Kenmore's, Whirlpool's and Ropers are direct drive machines this means they don't have a fan belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupling looks like: 0c6b869.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Wedge something underneath the chassis so it does not fall on you while your accessing the bottom. Go under the Machine and locate the motor, You will see the pump connected to the motor connected to the transmission. 1. Unplug the wire harness from the motor then. 2. Use a screw driver remove the 2 clips holding the pump in place and remove or push the pump out of the way. 3. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the brackets holding the Motor in place with a nut driver. 4. With a screwdriver remove the 2 clips holding the motor in place (be careful to support the motor as the clips comes off) 5. remove the motor and drop it onto the floor. Now you will see the coupling..one side on the motor the other side on the transmission the rubber connector in between. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Be aware you may smell rubber on the first couple loads this is normal after replacing a coupling. Good Luck!! if you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Mike p.s Please remember to rate my solution since this helps me to help other people :) Thanks! P.s Don't forget to unplug the power cord before servicing.

Replace Powercord

It has a cord relief to hold the cord in near the bottom, you will have to pull that out, the cord goes in there and comes out by the motor where the the wires connect. So you will have to pull the motor cover off to get to where they hook up to.

Dog chewed power cord

you have to take the machine completely apart and get inside where the motor is.take the cover off there are 3 screws 2 on the left side behind the hose and 1 on the right side back by the wheel.that will take the covr off.now where the upright sets on the base you will see a ******** each side of the motor, take those off, that will seperate the upright from the base.now you have to open the motor housing, there are 4 screws 2 on the front side and 2 on the bach side that will expose the motor and the cord.take out the old cord and splice in the new one.then put it all back together in reverse of how you took it apart.please leave feedback
