The damper door may be broken. I had this problem in the past and the fresh food was too cold. I replaced the damper assembly and all was fixed.

I got the same problem.
Temperarily solution:
Open the top hook overnight and you will see the temperature will return to normal i.e. 1 degree F

I suspect there is the thermostat or some type of thermal sensor that prevent the freezer to operate during summer time

Hope it help

You're frozen up.  Defrost completely.  Then, clean your condenser.  Make sure to never leave open containers in the fridge...water condenses into ice.  If you still have problems, you may be low on gas.

SOURCE: Refrigerator is too cold and freezes food.

Good day,
If the machine is under one year old, all working components are under factory warranty. Call for warranty service from selling dealer, or if you moved out of the area, an authorized Whirlpool warranty dealer.

Check the air damper at the back top left of the fresh foods section to see if the damper door has broken and thus not able to close. It is electrically operated, but if it breaks, you can have your exact condition occuer.

The food on the refrigrator side is freezing. the water line is not working so i assume its frozen as well.

Hello Tina,

The problem with it freezing in the freshfood section is going to be because the air damper that opens and closes to let cold into the ref. section is stuck open and too much cold air is entering into the ref. compartment. This is a fairly common occurence with the GE refrigs. and by replacing the fresh food air damper which is located in the upper left corner of the fresh food compartment it will open and close properly and not allow too much cold air to enter where upon it freezes everything.

Refrigerator inside not getting cold enough. A GE refrigerator side by side.

If it is just the fresh food section and not the freezer. Check out this link to see a GE condenser problem. Make sure to clean that condenser once a year. In most cases when the damper assembly flapper door goes bad in the fresh food section, the fresh food side will start to freeze your food. The next thing I would check is what John is talking about. Pull the freezer back panel off to see if your evaporator coil is frost over. When this happens it will restrict air into the fresh food side(refrigerator side). Click Here to see what a defrost problem looks like.

I have a GE refrigerator GFSS6KKYSS Model. Serial #: LS900091 It appears that there is ice on the back of the refrigerator and water is collecting on the floor of the compartment. What is the problem and...

This is a rather unique refrigerator in that there is a seperate evaportator (cooling coil) for the refrigerator section and the freezer section, where as almost all other refrigerators only have coils in the freezer section and use a fan to blow some of the cold air into the refrigerator section. This design will prevent cross contamination of odors between fresh foods and freezer sections, and allow lower humidity freezer at the same time as higher humidity fresh foods. All good things.

That said,..... you need to take the cover off the back wall from inside the fresh foods section and thaw out the defrost drain locted at the bottom of those cooling coils. If I remember correctly, there are a couple hidden screws, and the back panel needs to be pryed off using a putty knife, I think you will find 4 small arrows / pointers for the spots to pry at. With cover removed, use a turkey baster with warm water until the water flows out the drain.

The upper portion of the freezer turns off, causing the ice to melt. And the cooler side bottom drawer turns into a freezer. I can't figure out what's going on.

You have a frost blocked evaporator. Translation: The cooling coils, located behind the back wall inside the freezer section, have plugged up with frost (usually caused by a burnt out defrost heater, located at the bottom of these coils) which prevents the cold air from circulating inside the freezer, and into the top of the fresh foods section. At the same time, this blocked air flow allows very cold air at the bottom of the freezer section to migrate back into the bottom of the fresh foods section, and thus freeze item in the bottom bins of the refrigerator. Unload the freezer, take the shelves out and remove the back panel. Melt the frost with a hair blower, and change out the heater at the bottom.

Our refrigerator is freezing our vegetables. it is turned all the way down.what is the problem?

Is food freezing in the rest of the fresh food side as well, or just the food in the lower half, like in the crispers. if its freezing everywhere in the fresh food section, you have a bad cold control most likely, without knowing the type or brand, i cant be 100%. If its a GE, you could have a different issue, but most any other brand will be a bad cold control.

If the food is only freezing in the lower half, then your evaporator fan motor is likely the problem, located in the freezer

Ice and water not working, then freezing in refrigerator, leaking

If the water tank in the fresh food section is leaking then you will need to replace it. the freezing in the fresh food section is due to the damper door not closing when it should. at the top left of the fresh food side there is a door that controls how much cold air it gets from the Freezer side. This door on your GE is controled by a motorized door witch is controled by a controlboard witch is reading sensors in your freezer and freshfood section for tempretures.

In short your freezing problem could be any of these:
temp sensor, Motorized damper door or control board. I would check the Motorized damper door first.

Fresh food side too warm

Refrigerator nguyen@ite.net 40 F or lower is the recommended refrigerator temperature to slow bacterial growth and maintain quality. Freezing occurs at 32 F; adjust refrigerator accordingly between 32 F and 40 F to prevent unwanted freezing, such as freezing milk.
