No, it would have no effect on idle speed. There probably is a large vacuum leak, and that would leave the idle speed uncontrolled and racing.

No it will not..air to the engine allows for accelerating not more gas..actually they work together..it would an air flow problem have the codes read to see what code come up..one other thing..is your vehicle equipped with a cruse control? Sometimes the linkage to that gets hung up..have someone start the vehicle and turn on tne cruse control and you watch what the linkage does.. Hope that helps good luck..

Where is the fuel sensor on a 1997 jeep grand cherokee

Have you checked the fuel filter? I would pull the fuel line apart before the filter to see if the pump is putting gas into the line. With key on, the pump should run for 2 seconds to pressurize the lines and fuel rail. And when the engine is cranking over, the pump should be running constant and putting gas into the line. If gas shoots out, possibly the filter is clogged or the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail is defective. If no gas comes out, possibly the pump filter sock is clogged or the pump is defective.
Very unusual for the pump to run and have NO fuel pressure.

Jeep won't run unless you hold down gas pedal? what could be wrong? We have a 2004 grand Cherokee.....we finally got it to start but once we left of the gas pedal it dies. ANy help would be greatly...

its not getting enough fuel to engine. it could be a plugged fuel filter, low fuel pump pressure, or a bad pressure regulator. check the fuel filter first and then go from there. also be sure plugs and wires are ok.

Car Turned off LIke it Was out of gas...

You should be able to hear the fuel pump running after cranking it enough to build up some oil pressure.
If the pump does run......try adding some fuel.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a rough idle at first

You do have a filter and it's mounted right on top of the pump on outside of tank...it is also the pressure regulator. You really should put a pressure gauge on the fuel system and check it out though. you may find there is a problem elsewhere. Good and proper testing is the only way to get answers about problems especially now that systems are all electronically controlled.

How is this car running? Remove the vacuum line from the pressure regulator on the fuel rail and check to see if there is any gas coming out of the line. If you see gas then the regulator is bad.

You may have a problem with the check valve in the fuel pump, if this valve is defective the gas drains back to the fuel tank and causes long crank times, you can test this by hooking up a fuel pressure guage at the fuel injector fuel supply line on the top of the engine, run the engine for a moment and quickly record the pressure when you shut down, that pressure reading should not drop more than 5 PSI overnight, if the check valve is bad the pressure will most likely start to drop right away, but do the over night test anyway. If this is the problem you will need to replace the fuel pump in the gas tank.
