If the larger pot has sufficient space for the roots you shouldn't need to trim them but using your fingers to carefully loosen them would be helpful. If you do have to trim the roots do it carefully. Be careful not to shock the tree by moving it to a different location or letting it dry out until the root system has had time to re-establish in the new pot.

Why are my chesnut trees leaves turning brown

If they are brown spots, its more that likely that your tree is sick. . He has answered many "green" questions for me in the past. Also, check to see if the ground beneath seems to have black spider like lines in the ground or your grass leading from the trunk outward. It would follow the root line of your tree. If you have these mysterious color changes on your ground, you more than likely have a fungus. All you have to do in this case is take a pole or a long sharp object like a broom handle and pierce the ground where the discoloration appears. Pierce it as deeply as you can. What happens is it allows the holes to air out the roots and send air to the roots so they can breath. Our Maple tree cleared up by end of season. No evidence the following spring, and the tree regained its health. I hope this helps you.

How can I kill roots in a sewer pipe?

You can use chemical treatments, but they will not show immediate results. Recommend calling a plumber to cut the roots out, and then treat with a commercial product such as RootX. Here are some links about other treatments:

My dwarf Meyer lemon is root bound in a terra cotta pot how do I remove without damage to plant or pot

Let's pretend it's an artificial plant!

The normal way to remove a plant from a pot is to hake sure the potting compost is slightly damp, then, holding the plant's stem between thumb and fingers, with the palm flat on the compost, to invert the pot. Now tap the pot gently, and the plant should slide out of the pot without damage to either. If the plant is pot-bound to the extent that roots come out of the central hole, trim these off beforehand.

When re-potting, ALWAYS pot up just one size. Spread the roots before re-potting, and make sure you use new compost.

I have a large locust tree growing close to the foundation of a building and adjacent blacktop sidewalk in the community where I live. My concern is the damage the root system may cause to the buildi

Locust Trees (like many other varieties ) have root systems that easy reach out as far as the foliage and beyond, especially in ares were root growth may be obstructed by buildings or soil may be poor or the tree lacks proper water. A contractor said to me once about such an issue ... "If the tree lives, the roots always win." Many varieties of locust have shallow rooting systems and eventually will lift sidewalks or crack cement.25167623-m2gmjme2lggf3syeo4u4b11f-1-0.jpg

A solid poured concrete foundation may withstand the pressure of the roots for an extended period of time, especially if it is thick and strong. Block concrete offers less resistance.

Most contractors and landscapers will suggest you plan to take the tree out in the near future
