SOURCE: GE Monogram Side by Side 42" Freezer light is lit on front panel.

The defrost timer is what I think you are asking. It is behind a cover near the light, The timer puts the fridge in defrost ever 6 to 8 hours. If the timer is bad it will stop the cycle of defrost and cause the freezer and the cold food section to warm spoiling the food and increase the freezer temp. Try turning the timer screw clockwise until you hear the fridge compressor stop. If after this listen for a crackling noise that will be the sound of defrost taking place. If doing this starts defrost, you will need to replace the timer.

SOURCE: Temperature Control not working on LG fridge

It is an error code. The thermal fuse in the freezer section has gone. It has to be replaced. To get by in the short term, uplug the unit for 15 minutes, then plug it back in. It will run until it hits the defrost again (approx 5 hours) Part location is 401A and part number is 6615JB2005C. It is easy to change once you get the back cover off. Plug in part.

It's almost always the defrost heater. If you have volts to the defrost thermostat the defrost control is working. Set your meter to check ohms and remove the wiring from the heater. If anything changes when you touch the meter leads to the heater terminals then the heater is probably good, but my guess is nothing will change, which means you've got a bad heater.

Freezer not working on Kitchenaid KFIS29BBBL00 Refrigerator Freezer

Is the compressor running non-stop - or is it satisfied at 45 degrees? If it has stopped - the thermostat could be junk. If it is running, the refrigerant coils in the freezer may be choked with frost. This means that the defrost circuit has a problem. One or possibly more of the defrost timer, defrost heater or defrost terminator has failed and will need to be replaced.

You can check by removing the food contents and unplugging it and allowing the freezer to defrost for 24 hours with all doors open. The freezer floor may get filled with water - so be prepared or lay several towels inside to absorb it. Plug it back in and set temperature to 34 - 35. If the temperature settles down to the temperature, the defrost is likely the problem.

Hi,
I'm Leo
This is a common defrost problem, The ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. he fan can't blow into ref.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check evaporator fan in freezer
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Top refrigerator warm bottom is ice cold.

An automatic defrost time turns the defrost cycle on and off every 24 hours. If problem continues, problem is most likely defective defrost timer.

Even electronically controlled units often have electro-mechanical timers for defrost cycle.
