Question about Saws

1 Answer

I have 2 DW715 miter saws given to me, with the blades off one sounds wicked, you can spin it forward by hand but stops/locks up trying to spin in reverse. Sounds like a belt or bearing. The other one with the blade attached, blade looks like it's bouncing, but with blade removed, sounds fine and works fine. No slop on either of their shafts. The arbor bushing that slides over the shafts seems to be sloppy. You can wiggle both or rock them on the shaft. Would that make the blade wobble?. I had 2 questions in here if you are understanding my thinking.

The first one sounds like an armature bearing - pretty easy fix if you have access to a press or even a bearing / gear puller. Make sure the saw is unplugged, remove the end cap on the motor and the 2 carbon brushes. remove the 4 screws holding the motor housing to the saw and pull it off. Then, pull the armature straight out - replace the bad bearing, and reverse process.
The second one sounds like it is missing the arbor bushing #152636-00 or it has a bad blade bolt #145344-01.

SOURCE: Delta 36-075 miter saw. Motor ok, but blade will not spin

It sounds as though one or both of the items are stripped. They mesh to drive the blade so I would not take a chance on just replacing just one. Also when you look at this you might also want to look at replacing the bearings and brushes. Make sure you clean out the gear housing or you will have immediate problems again. Also check where you buy these parts for their recommendation on the grease that needs to be used.

Depending on your budget, I suggest replacing the item. It sounds like your bearings are bad, which means tearing apart the case and replacing them (which don't cost much). There are two bearing encasements so you would need to replace both. If you're up for the challenge, give it a try! The bearings can typically be found on the manufacturers website.

HOW DO i UNLOCK MY MITER SAW TO LIFT THE BLADE AND ARM

If all you are trying to do is get the blade arm up so you can use the saw in the first place: Press down a bit on the entire blade arm and that will allow you to pull the locking pin to the out position -- the pin is on the left side toward the rear, smallish, and shiny silver in color... you should be able to reach out to the pin with the left hand while pressing down with the right hand.

How do I remove 12" blade from from dw705 miter

loosen the guard screw, UNPLUG tool first, move the guard out of the way, there is a spindle lockon the backside of the gearcase push it and slowly turn the blade until it engages and then remove the bolt, it is a left hand thread. DO NOT disassemble the guard, just loosen bolt and move out away from blade also you need to have the head in the raised position.

How do you replace a broken locking pin on dewalt dw708 miterbox? thx

You do not have to drill anything out, if you are talking about the hold-down locking pin that keeps the blade assy locked down when not in use. I have created a tutorial for replacing the locking pin, you can find it here, http://mgfic.com/dewalt708_lockingpin.htm

This is common IF the blade clamping nut becomes loose... the blade will free wheel on the arbor after the motor stops. It can tear up the arbor so investigate this possibility immediately.

Change blade

OK first raise the cutting head. Loosen the screw that holds the guard in place and move out of the way. Find the spindle lock on the right hand side of the gearcase and turn blade by hand (UNPLUG SAW FIRST) until it locks. With the wrench supplied with saw put it on the blade bolt and turn it clockwise to loosen, it has left hand threads, remove outer flange and blade. Let me know it you need any more help

Either the blade or the guard is out of alignment. You will have to check and find out which one is the culprit.
