Double check the drive axle keyway and make sure key is still in there. Without it the drive axle just spins without driving either wheel.
Also if hydro static make sure the neutral lever is re-engaged. Operators sometimes put these in neutral and then forget to put them back when they to use the mower.

SOURCE: Ariens Yard Tractor 935 Series - initially drives, then stops moving as it gets warm

Is it a hydrostatic tranmission? If so, sounds like the fluid might be old or not the right viscosity. Recommend changing the trans fluid, and use recommended viscosity of fluid.

SOURCE: John Deere L120 transmission high pitch noise and no forward move

Try jacking the unit up. Start it up and try moving pushing the forward and reverse back and forth and see if it does it then. It sounds like an oil way in the hydrostatic unit has a check valve stuck. Of course make sure that the fluid lever is up. Hope this will help you. donnyb60

Jack up the rear end using the frame. Put a person or cinder block on the seat, and put it in drive. Look for the shafts turning inside the wheels indicating broken keyways.

Gt 245 lawn tractor won't go forward or backward

Check the drive belts first. and make sure the hydro release lever is in the correct position. If it is not- you can push the lawn tractor and have the rear wheels turn. It sometimes doubles as a "Forward" "Neutral" "Reverse" lever on other brands of lawn tractor.

The belts should be in their guides and pulley grooves- check to make sure it does not have a hidden break by having the engine off, and pulling on the belt.

Lastly, check to make sure the hydro itself is not out of oil or low on oil. It uses low viscosity "HyGard" oil. Capacity if you drain the old oil out and refill is 4.6 quarts. Look for a leak if the level is low.

If it still does not move, make sure the levers are set so you are in forward motion positions, and push- if the rear wheels move there is a problem in the hydro unit.

I took off one of my rear tires to get it fixed and after I put it back on it will not go into gear. Blade engages and motor starts but no forward or reverse

Hello, What has likely happen is the keyway (Sears part # 123583X) fell out. Verify this by:

setting the parking brake
lifting the side that you removed the wheel from
turn the wheel by hand

If it turns and the axle does not then the keyway is missing.

The part costs somewhere around $3.00 from Sears Parts.

To replace:

remove the snap ring and outer washers
turn the wheel by hand until the keyway channels line up
slide the keyway into the channel
replace the washers and snap ring
test by ensuring wheel no longer turns without the axle

I also recommend that you go to your local auto parts store and get some "antiseize". Put some on the axle before you replace the wheel that will keep it from rusting and making it near impossible to remove next time. I know Autozone sells it in small packets for about a buck-thirty.

I hope this helps. If it was useful please vote yes. Thank you!

I don't quite get you, if the belt is running but the rear axle is not turning then your transmission is shot. If the belt is running and the rear axle is spinning with no forward or backward motion, then someone took the back wheels off and put them back on without installing the keyways.

Our 20 hp 46" cut Husqvarna '08 riding mower will crank just fine but will not move forward or backward.

Check to make sure the belt that runs from the engine pulley back to the transaxle is on all the pulleys. If it is a hydrostatic transaxle make sure the free wheel control lever at the back of the tractor is in correct position, or the brake plate may be stuck on but that would make a loud grinding sound. If it is a gear drive make sure the transaxle pulley is turning and make sure you didn't lose a rear wheel key from the axle,(if you had the tire off for a repair it is easy to lose the key when you go to put the tire back on.

My John Deer L130 tractor needed a new tire so I bought one and put it on. Now it will not go into gear. It will not go forward or backwards. Why won't it go. Please help Tammy

This was a rear tire I assume. There's a square key about 2" long that fits in a groove in the axle and a slot in the rim. You probably pushed it out putting the wheel back on and didn't notice. Look where you took off/put tire on. It should be laying there.

Clutch issues: release clutch and mower doesnt move.

"....I just took off the right rear tire to replace."

Make sure the key hasnt fallen out of the right rear tire. It has to have the key to work. Its a peice of metal about 3 inches long and flat on all sides. It should slip into the grove on the tires shaft. Hope that helps.
