### How to compute fraction multiplication?

Multiply the numerators (the top numbers) and multiply the denominators (the bottom numbers).

As an example, 3/4 x 4/5 = (3 x 4)/(4 x 5) = 12/20. Now we should reduce it to lowest terms by dividing numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor. I divided the numerator and denominator by 4 and got 3/5.

Good luck.

### Can you help me on this question?

This answer is correct. 4/12 divided by 2/2= 1/3
The reciprocal of 2/2 is 2/2
Then you multiply straight across and reduce to get 1/3

### Find a common denominator for each pair of fractions. Then rename each fraction in the pair

12 has factors 2*2*3
8 has factors 2*2*2
So lowest common denominator is 2*2*2*3 or 24

3/12 = 6/24 and 3/8 = 9/24

### Multiplying mixed fractions

Convert each mixed number (what you call mixed fraction) to an improper fraction, then multiply the two numerators and multiply the two denominators. Reduce the resulting fraction to its simplest form

Example
(2 1/3)*(1 5/7)=?
Convert 2 1/3 to an improper fraction 2 1/3=2+ 1/3 = 6/3+1/3=7/3
Convert 1 5/7 to an improper fraction 1 5/7=1+ 5/7 =7/7 +5/7=12/7
(2 1/3)*(1 5/7)= (7/3)*(12/7)= (7*12)/(3*7)
The 7's in the numerator and denominator cancel one another leaving
12/3=4
(2 1/3)*(1 5/7)=4
Not all products of mixed numbers will give a simple result as this one. More likely they will not.

### What's the answer to 15 17/100 - 2 3/4

To add or subtract fractions, the denominators must be the same. The lowest common denominator in the question is 100, so 3/4 becomes 75/100:

15 17/100 14 117/100
-2 75/100 is the same as -2 75/100
12 42/100 = 12 21/50

### How to convert this to fractions 12 1/6 - 2 3/8 -7 2/3 + 19 3/4

One way to solve the problem is to convert all the fractions so that they have the same common denominator, then just add them up.

12 1/6 = 73 / 6 = 292 / 24

2 3/8 = 19 / 8 = 57 / 24

7 2/3 = 23 / 3 = 184 / 24

19 3/4 = 79 / 4 = 474 / 24

Therefore:

(292 / 24) - (57 / 24) - (184 / 24) + (474 / 24) = 525 / 24 = 21 21/24 = 21 7/8

Therefore:

12 1/6 - 2 3/8 -7 2/3 + 19 3/4 = 21 7/8

Good luck, I hope that helps.

### 12(q plus q over 3 plus q over 4 minus q over 6)

OK It is a little difficult trying to figure out the fractions you are trying to describe. Are there 3 fractions within the ( ) ? One with a denominator of 3, one with a denominator of 4, and one with a denominator of 6?

If so, the answer is 9q.

You must change the fractions within the ( ) to a common denominator, which would be 12. That would be 8q+3q-2q all over 12. Since it is all being multiplied by 12 outside the brackets, you just cancel the 12 outside and the 12 denominator inside which leaves the 8q+3q-2q which equals 11q-2q which equals 9q.

Thanks for using Fixya.
