That's normal operation. As the set temp is reached the burner turns off. When the temp falls below the set temp the burner turns on to compensate.

SOURCE: top oven does not work...

If the oven is wired properly and correct polarity on the outlet, here is the power flow.
Power will come from the control board relay, through the ignitor, then goes to ground through the dual valve.
The resistance of the ignitor causes it to heat up, the hotter it gets the more power goes to the valve. When the amp draw gets to about 3.2 amps there is enough power for the valve to open and let the gas into the burner.
It is unusual for both the bake and broil functions to fail at the same time. They are separate circuits. The dual valve is actually 2 separate coils inside one housing.
If you have continuity through the ignitors and continuity through the valve coils, check the wiring from the valve to ground. These should be the white wires that come from the valve and connected together before going on to the main neutral connection.
Let me know what you find.
Thanks, Mike

SOURCE: Oven does not heat. Glow bar ignitor glows but no flame.

usually this means that your ignitor is weak and needs to be replaced. When the ignitor glows and NO gas flows through you need a new ignitor.

For replacement parts - head on over to or and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Turn on oven and temp stays at 75. No gas comes on and igniter does not glow. Replaced igniter and still have same problem. Have 120 volts in and out of igniter and it does not glow. Help?

Lets take a look at yer wirin diagram.
You have 4 components in the oven heating circuit. The control, the ignitor, the safety valve, and the sensor.
Ignitor has been replaced with no help right? Did you check for continuity of the gas safety valve?
themobilian_1659.jpgIf yall have nothing (open circuit) between the two terminals then the valve is bad. Won't no ignitor glow with an open safety valve. Next thing:
Sensor: 1100 ohms @room temp. Erratic or open sensor and the oven won't KNOW what the temp is. themobilian_1660.jpg
Finally and I say finally because yall want to replace the most expensive part which is the control last, after yall know for sure it ain't all of the above mentioned components.

I have some service manuals and more HERE

Oven not coming on correctly or up to temp setting

The most common problem is a bad oven glowbar ignitor.
The part number is 5303935066.
Remove the oven racks and the oven base pan to access the ignitor for replacement.

Hello there:
Normally if your ignitor is coming on in the specified time usually around 45 to 75 seconds
this would indicate that the thermostat is defective and needs to be replaced.
However if the ignitor its taking longer that this this would indicate that the ignitor is getting weak and should be replaced.
I would recommend replacing the ignitor along with the thermostate to ensure that you are using new parts you will get better performance with new parts ok
Hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

I have a Magic Chef Chateau Gas range. The upper oven does not heat properly. It comes on, but never gets up to operating temps.

you could have a bad ignitor check that it is actually igniting the gas and you can see flame, also check the cavity sensor a probe that sticks into the oven at the top usually on the left top corner but if the bake cycle works with good results them it is ok
check for flame when it starts give it a mibute to ignite, if it does not then you need to replace the broil ignitor.

Oven won't heat up at all.

broiler on top of oven?? if so it might have a second ignitor that is working. Most units now with gas have an electric ignitor to start gas ovens. What they do is send electric current through an electric "wire", when enough current is flowing through wire to open gas valve the wire is hot enough to ignite the gas flowing over it. When you turn on the oven look at the burner and after 1 imute or so you should be able to see an Orange glow in bottom of oven if not I'm sure its the ignitor, if glows then probably oven valve is bad. I'd guess ignitor because most oven makers use this ignitor to mantain a warming temp (around 100 degree's) so since your display doesnt register over inital "start" temp of 75, i'd bet ingitor not coming on at all

Temperature is Unstable

erratic temp in oven can also be a bad oven ignitor, usually to low of a temp and not able to stay at temp, too long to preheat.replace the bake ignitor
