Can't get primer blub to pump gas

I can't get it to prime so as to start it. When the primer does work it starts right up.

The primer bulb may have a pinhole or be worn out. Also check the primer line going from the bulb to the carb, could be pinched, blocked, or the attached ends may be too loose. Try pulling the hose ends off, it should not be too easy to remove them, if it is and its long enough cut off the old loose section and reinstall.

My prime bulb looses pressure and first start is hard. I have to remove fuel line from filter and cover with thumb prime re install then first start takes time.

Does the engine run fine after it starts? Most common problem with primer bulb losing prime is an air leak in the fuel line or primer bulb. Air leaks don't always leak fuel. If there is an air leak between the primer bulb and gas tank there is no pressure, only vacuum. If it is not a major leak it might not leak without pressure but it will allow air to enter the fuel line. If it is a very minor air leak it could allow air to replace the liquid in the fuel line over time, but so little air once it is primer again that the fuel pump can over come it with volume of fuel.

Primer bulbs do not stay firm, as they are when initially pumped up, after the engine is running. There are check valves in the primer bulb that hold pressure in the primer bulb and throughout the fuel line to the engine. Once the engine starts the fuel pump creates vacuum drawing fuel into the engine diminishing this pressure and releasing the check valves. At this point the primer bulb is just another segment of fuel hose allowing fuel to pass through it as the fuel pump demands. The primer bulb functions much better when the outlet side is higher than the inlet side. This position makes it easier for the check valves in the primer bulb to seat and release as needed. If the primer bulb is functioning properly and is positioned with the outlet side higher than the inlet it should not be necessary to cover the end of the fuel hose with your thumb to get it to prime.

If the engine is hard to start after being fully primed there could be a problem with the fuel system on the engine. Some engines are hard to prime once air has entered the system, especially fuel injected models.

Engine on 30"Craftsman 2009 snow thrower won't prime. Primer button and connecting tube look good. Primer button won't send gas to the carb.

the priming bubble can look totally perfect, but all it takes is a pin hole and right around the retaining ring is hard to spot a crack and you should also check fuel lines in tank

Wont prime up

I have seen a couple of different things cause this... Are the fuel lines hooked up and not split and fuel filter routed right in tank.(hanging freely touching bottom of tank lying flat) next if your carb has adj. screws H &L I have seen when the H is cranked snug (lean) that primer won't work right. Last but not least your Needle inlet valve is stuck shut and or the fuel pump diaphram little tabs are not sealing off chambers in carb on fuel pump side. make sure your fuel lines are properly hooked up to the right spots. when you push primer bulb it should squirt gas into the fuel tank, then when you release it ,it should draw fuel from the tank through the filter and thru the carb and then out to tank.

May 4, 2011 I purchased a Yard Machine Mower Model 12A-A140029 with a Briggs & Stratton 158cc/5.50 engine from Home Depot. From day one it was very difficult to start. (I have used it about five...

I have the same model purchased last spring from Home Depot. I finally learned to prime it 6 times instead of 3 like it says on the mower. After pushing the primer 6 times mine starts fine. It usually requires priming even when the engine is warm to get it to re-start unlike any mower I have had in the past.

Primer bulb on Yardboss blower will not **** fuel from tank. Blower will run if primed manually.

remove your carb and clean it and replace diaphram's and needle , they tend to swell up from ethanol that is used in the gas now a days, and the diaphrams turn stiff and won't pump fuel. then put fresh gas in when you are done and also replace fuel lines and filter too., probably primer to because once it is hit with carb clean it just crumbles, good luck
