Pilot light ok when release finger pilot goes out

Your thermo couple is bad. Thats the copper tube that goes from the gas valve to the pilot. It senses thats the pilot is lit. Thats not working thats why it goes out. You can get a new one at lowes or home depot for about ten bucks its pretty easy to change just dont kink it when you put it in. It will just plug in at the pilot and screw in at at gas valve.

My pilot goes out on my water heater

Water heater type and gas control valve are not known.
Pilot light problems on tank-type gas water heater can be caused by bad thermocouple, not enough air to water heater, clogged air intake, tripped FV sensor, dirty pilot orifice, lack of combustion air, bad gas control valve, bad vent, damaged combustion parts from exposure to trace chemicals such as bleach and wax, etc.

Just purchast and installed everything hooked up push the sparker looking through window I see nothing

You posted under Reliance gas water heater
You installed a new gas water heater and are trying to light water heater using the piezo igniter.

Not clear is what steps you have taken so far, and which gas control valve is on the new water heater, and what lighting instructions say on side of water heater.
Also unknown if you bled air out of gas line, or if gas shut-off handle is rotated so handle is parallel with gas line.
Read instructions written on side of tank, open link below to double-check installation, and then add a comment with steps you have taken so far, and describe the type of gas control valve on water heater.

I had a water heater blanket installed on my gas water heater. The installers made a mistake and covered the air intake vents. Now I have removed the blanket but cannot get the water heater to light...

Since the pilot light stays on, and the main burner comes on momentarily, then goes out. This mean to
say that the gas supply is not steady, it also goes off.
You got to get your gas valve repaired or replaced to get
it working.
