I have this Panny TV PT-53WXD63 that had been working perfect till just a few week back. It seems that the RF input somehow has gone bad on this TV. Not just the HD, but its also not picking up any SD signals through the RF antenna input port at the back of the TV. Have tried both port A as well as B.
I tried hooking up a VCR to the RF inputs as well to verify the SD signals don't work as well.
It all started happening very slowly where I would have all the signals, then one day I will loose all of them, then after unplugging/replugging, also waiting 30mins in between, and then rescanning the signals would sometimes bring the channels back. Now the channels would just not come at all. Rest of the functionality, even the HDMI port work fine.
Please advise how I can get this repaired either myself or through some tech. If Tech who would you recommend, I was thinking of calling Sears at some point, but if I can do a DIY, that would be cool, I have previously opened the back of the TV to clean all the dust etc.
I have an Attic OTA that works fine with my other HD TV... Would appreciate your expert advise very much
Thanks for your reply. I just opened the back of my TV, did not have any luck finding any loose connections, but was able to write down the part number TNP2AA144. Now I googled this part and was able to find the tuner cards with extra characters at the end of the same part number, e.g. TNP2AA144 DS, etc.
Not sure if I should order one, and try replacing the card. Most of the sites do not show the picture of the part, but was able to find this site with the picture that looks just like the card I saw in my TV, issue is this site has it out of stock, and also list it for Panny model TH-42PX25 http://www.shopjimmy.com/pc-board-digi-t...
Other sites I could find the part number but again not sure if I need to be careful with these extra characters at the end. Any advice? Thanks for your reply. You have had the back off before, so you know how to get to the circuit boards. You will have to remove the video output panel as well for this repair.
Look for a box that has the RF connectors attached to it and remove it.
Open the box and inspect the solder connections on all the devices, including the grounds around the sides of the box. The grounds are a big issue on all tuner and switching connections.
Solder all of the connections in the tuner switch and you should be good to go. I would recommend a 45 watt iron, if it is too hot it can lift the traces off of the circuit board.
If this does not work I would recommend a technician to diagnose the tuners in your set, as this is the next circuit to receive the signal.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

If you have installed a sky magic eye, i am assuming you have taken a sky feed from the RF outlet of the back of the sky box to view sky in another room, if this is the case, this is an analogue feed which you would have to tune in manually to the second tv, this would suggest that you havent lost the digital signal you just have you second tv selected on analogue. On the assumption your system is connected like the following;
Sky box connections
Main aerial input
sky sat input
rf out to second tv
if this shows "vid" on screen turn it back to tuner input with input button on original remote.... could be marked who/input on some....go to mrremote.com if you haven't got it..............good success, meder's tv service
sounds like you convergence generator is gone out, when this happens it is common for one or more of the colors to go out of alignment and not able to adjust, or hold the adjustment. typical cost for this type of repair at a shop is $250-450
It seems that the "backlight" has gone bad. "Backlight" is the device that allows to see the picture in an LCD TV, when they are about to go bad the symptom that you describe is very usual. It depends on the tv manufacturers and model to expect how long the "backlight" is going to last in a tv.You can shop around for a replacement part and try to do it yourself or take it to an especialized technician. Good luck..
Sounds like a defective lamp diever or ballast.Listen for a buzzing sound when you turn the set on. If you do not hear it then most likely you have a bad ballast or lamp driver. Worst case scenerio would be the engine itself.
The color has gone crazy on you because your convergence IC's have gone bad.
These IC's operate at a very high temp, and usually only last 4-5 years.
If you remove the back of the set, you will want to look for the BIGGEST heatsink in there, on that heatsink, you will see 2 lage IC's , probably STK392-110, or STK392-120's or something close...regardless - you can go on ebay to order the new ones, but MAKE SURE they are Genuine SANYO IC's and not counterfiet cheapies. the cheap ones may only last 2 months..
You will also need some "Heat transfer paste" - you can pick this up at radio shack.
Once you remove the old IC's, test all the large resistors near them.. pull one side of the resistor out of the board so you can check it out of circuit. they will usually have the value in Ohms, printed directly on the resistor, but you may have to use the resistor color code to find out what value they are....However, usually if there is any damage, the resistor will look like it has been HOT or fried. replace the IC's and any bad resistors, and you should be good to go.
If after replacing the IC's and any defective resistors, the convergence is still bad, make sure to use a multimeter to check ALL fuses on the boards, --- sometimes when the IC's go, they will take out a fuse to the convergence power supply. If you find any bad fuses, replace them accordingly!
Hope that helps!
On the TV you should have a video, input or mode button. If you press that button while the 360 is on it should pickup the signal. You need to be in video mode instead of cable mode since you are using the red, yellow, white cables. Many TVs have a few video modes so press it wait a few seconds and try again if it does not work. Hope this helps:)
