Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hi - I'm looking for a circuit / wiring diagram for a Dimplex Lymington LYM28E Series E Optiflame electric fire. Only one of the radiant bars heats up on max. Heat control setting (7), although all three bars are good when tested individually. Any help much appreciated.

Bad Switch

Thanks for your input. Rocker switch B1 is supposed to light 2 bars at control level 7 (Max) and rocker switch B2 adds the 3rd bar at that level. Reducing control level will apparently turn off bar 3 (controlled by B2) and if necessary one of the bars controlled by B1. Is it possible that the problem has something to do with the heat level control as it doesn't "click" at any setting unlike a similar control knob for the built in convector heater. Thanks again.

Dimplex dakota heater is working but flame effect is not its led I think not bulbs.

Says you can turn it on and off? Did you knock the switch?

Can I operate the flame effect on the fire without the heat?
All our Optiflame and Opti-myst fires can be operated on a flame-effect only setting, as can the flickering flame effect on our freestanding bar fires.

Is the flame effect expensive to run?
No, to run the flame effect involves powering light bulbs and a small electric motor and in most cases costs no more than a couple of pence an hour. Some of our fires have LED lamps fitted which are even more energy efficient.

Some have bulbs, some have LED.
Example calculations:
Using UK standard average price of electricity of 14p/kWh (source: Energy Saving Trust Feb 2015)
Optiflame LED flame effect only (eg Danesbury) = 0.1p every hour
Optiflame conventional bulb, effect only (eg Cheriton) = 2p every hour
Opti-myst, flame effect only (eg Oakhurst) = 3p every hour
Opti-V single screen = 0.5p every hour
2kW fan heater, on constantly (no thermostat) = 28p every hour

Optiflame lightbulbs for sale. Remove the coals and check for bulbs.

Fire was working fine, then flame effect stopped. Heater still works on both settings, but no flame effect. Tried new bulbs, but still no flame effects, any ideas?

If it is not the bulbs, it is often a melted switch or circuit board.

Dimplex optiflame remote not working

The DFI2310 uses a simple plug-in remote.
You can either order one from Dimplex, or use an aftermarket solution such as this one from Skytech: Skytech 1315G Electric Fireplace Remote.

I have exactly the same problem, light effect just went out tonight. Trying to work out if it is the motor or that little tiny cream box fixed to the terminals inside. If I take it out the lights come on. Just about to see if the motor is working, just that box that has gone.

Noisy optiflame motor on dimplex cheriton fire

If you are referring to the motor of the flame effect, these are called synchronous motors (commonly used in microwave turntables. Any syncronous motor should do as a replacement, but check whether you need a 12v model or a 240v model. This information should be found on the label on the back of the old motor.
