My kitchen light stopped working. I used a tester to check for power. When i touch the black and ground wire it lights up. when i touch the black and white it doesnt lite up. when i touched the white and...

You have an open neutral. The reason you get light from hot to gnd is there is potential or voltage between them. With the bulb in, and the switch on, the white will read as the black. Yet nothing between them. Take out the bulb and turn on the switch. Now the white will not light up at all. Find the broken or burned white wire in a box, another light, a switch, or a burned wire. Please have a qualified repairman as you may burn down your house or possibly kill somebody. An open neutral can cause immediate fire. By removing wire nuts on other neutral junctions, you can instantly cause a fire and burn your house down. I am not kidding. Call in the troops to fix this one.

Where canI find a printout of instructions? What does the red light mean

The red light means you are near a Hot (Black), or any hot wire or outlet. Remember, on this kind of tester, it is only to know if you have power in the circuit. It will not register on the common (white) wire, or green ground.
I am attempting to upload the owners manual for you. Good luck! & Thank you for using Fix Ya.jrsizer.jpg

What dose the numbers on a carbon alarm mean after it goes off. we think for no reason we only have a gas water heater and that only a year old. Thank u

The numbers on my CO detector indicate the concentration of Carbon Monoxide in the room. The manual for most Kidde Alarms are here: https://portalgb.knowledgebase.net/display/4/kb/browse/cat.aspx?cid=88327&kb=16372&L1cid=88309&L2cid=88327&level=3&r=0.06986403&tab=browse . For some models, it will display the peak CO detected (if the peak level button is pressed).

Do not assume that the alarm is in error. Please have the exhaust vent, pipe and intake (for some tankless water heaters) checked for blockages or disconnected pieces. (You can check some of the vents pipe yourself - like the connection from the water heater to the pipe. Depending on your building, you may need a professional to check the vent on the roof and the pipe from there.) Also check the flame color of the water heater. For natural gas, you should see a blue flame. LP usually has a little bit of yellow in the flame tips. CO is the result of incomplete combustion. See this page for an idea of the flame color: http://www.appliance411.com/faq/gas_range_flames.shtml . If the flame is the wrong color, get the unit fixed.

I hope this helps.

(who has had the CO detector indicate a major problem. Fortunately it was easy to fix. I hope yours is also simple.)

No power. Dishwasher stopped mid cycle and no appears to have no power

Circuit breaker? (Sometimes it will appear to be on, but is actually off).
Open up bottom front without removing dishwasher from hole. Remove plate with high voltage warning sign where wire goes in. Insert finger and twist about. If a bad thing happens then you have power.
Better idea: Purchase a high voltage detector. It's a little pen light thing. Get the cheapest and simplest one -- they work the best.
Insert voltage detector and move wires about with it. If voltage detector does not light, then it has no power. If a wire comes out of a joint, then you have a loose wire. If a wire comes loose and strikes the box, you may remember the K-Mart blue light special. If an insulated wire which should not be exposed glues itself to the box -- unglue it and remove power quicker than immediately.

One beep constantly on smoke and CO unit. says battery low but the system is wired into house panel. Help!

Most new smoke detectors work off of two power sources, electric and battery backup. The battery is used to power the detector if primary electrical AC power is lost. It would be a good idea to replace all detector batteries every two years or so. You'll access the battery by opening the unit, find out the type used and then purchase a replacement at your local store. Hope this helps.
