You would have to generate enough solar power to offset what you actually use in power each month plus however much energy you want to sell back to the electric company. This is solely based on how much you use to start with and then keep adding on. Systems like that can cost you 10s of thousands of dollars to install.

Should people invest renewable energy?

While it's fairly easy to fit solar panels on your roof to generate electricity - and save money - investing in funds that hold the wind and solar firms offers more of a challenge.
It sounds like the perfect investment. Equip your house with solar panels and look forward to dramatically reduced utility bills and the potential to earn a handsome return by selling any excess energy to the electricity grid.
Thousands of people across the country have already embraced this idea since the government introduced the Feed-in Tariffs (FIT) Scheme in April 2010 to encourage the uptake of small-scale renewable and low-carbon technologies.
Greg Shreeve, the insight manager at the Energy Saving Trust, believes getting solar panels installed is a no- brainer for many people. The potential benefits to be enjoyed, he argues, more than makeup for the upfront costs.
"The technology pays for itself within 11 years and will go on generating electricity for your home," he says. "It's a great way to actually start making money when energy prices are rising. It's free electricity and low-carbon technology, so a winner all round."

Solar panels not clear

it is a calcium build up
get a liquid cleaner that removes calcium and scrub it on the panels
just a side note here
I used to worry about the problem as it was affecting all of my garden solar lights until I bought a small solar panel from JAYCAR and placed it well up in the air and away from any spraying water
to my dismay it also went white but it still charges the battery enough to run solar lights all night to next morning
I think that the panel works from ultra violet rays that penetrate the white film so making the panel parts work
for roof panels that charge to the utility grid, the loss from dust and bird droppings is less that 1% so these companies that charge big dollars to clean the panels are in fact close to rip off people get more information by googling for sites that have cleaners to assist you

Solar power the scooter has a on board charger how big of a solar panel to run it

You would be better off finding the out the battery voltage and getting a solar panel to match that (EBAY) because if you are going to use a solar panel to power a charger then charge the battery, it takes an inverter AND those panels that are on a roof that are very large, only produce 24 volts.

What kind of solar panel would i need to power a grundorf jp 5

It depends on many factors. What is your geographical location, in very hot climate generally poly panels do a little better and you need to match your charge controllers input with the solar panels. sometimes for small systems big panels with higher current ratings do not do well.

I have a camper trailer with 100amp battery and was wondering up to what size inverter i can run iwill be using 60ltr fridge (not running it overnight) a tv and computor

Before you get too carried away, are you aware that no matter what size inverter you are running, you need enough battery capacity to convert to AC (hydro) . 1 x 100 amp battery will not last very long under that load. Do you have plans, or storage space for a few more batteries? How/what are your plans for charging those batteries after usage, such as plugging the trailer in or an external charger, or perhaps solar panels? All that needs to be considered. Look at appliances you plan on running and get the watts, or amps required reading of tags, then it will be easier to calculate for you, and recommend possible solutions.

Hello Phil, what is the size of your solar panel? This pump draws 17 watts so, your panel must be 17 watts or greater. Remember a solar panel only puts out full power when in direct sunlight and facing the sun directly. You can read 21 volts but your amperage may not be full and this is why your pump is not running, not enough amps. I would recommend a minimum of a 20 watt panel.

Swimming pool solar heater panels freeze problem

Depending on the manufacturer, your solar panels may be replaced under warranty. Our installer says that once the panels begin leaking, they tend to deteriorate fairly rapidly. For example, three leaks the first year, 7 leaks the second year, 30 leaks the third year.

Many solar panels are warrantied against freezing, but that is not likely to be the future of the warranties, because they inevitably DO freeze and leak.

If there are just a few leaks, it is easier to fix them - a Fafco Solar panel repair kit can usually be bought from your installer for about $25.00.

If you turned the pump on to manual to circulate the water through the panels, that should prevent a freeze - but will cost you the electrical cost to run the pump.

Our experience has been that it is better NOT to drain the panels - we had many fewer leaks the years we have not drained the panels, despite occasional hard freezes in our part of California.

In addition, your rooftop installation should help radiate some heat up to the panels to keep them from freezing.

Check your warranty and get the panels replaced if there are more than a few leaks.
