You can use SD card to record, but SD card recording just provide motion detection recording.
If you need nonstop recording, there is only PC or NAS could apply on.

We had an older system at work, and redundancy on our system was in case you wanted to make two separate recordings. You may want to make a recording on the DVR, but you may also want to output a signal to a remote hard drive. That way, if someone tries to take the DVR disc, you have another copy
