Question about Kenmore Washing Machines
400 Series. My Kenmore 400 series washer does not seem to be releasing the fabric softener properly. It ends up all around the top if the barrel and spotted on my clothes as well. Anything I can do other than go to dryer sheets?
The dispencer can at times become plugged with old soap and farbic softener and should be cleaned every so often. if it cannot dispinse it will shoot out the dispenser all over when it goes into spin. the lines can even get plugged up and not allow fabric softerner to flow , u may want to remove fabric hoses and clean them

Try not to wash large items with small items the large items like sheet will twist around the small item. causeing twisting and wrinkling. Also If you are overloading the clothes or underloading the clothes they will come out wrinkled. I would try to do some testing wash a load of only towels then wash a load of only t-shirts and other light weight items that you may have. Then do just a load of your jeans. What happens? Please let me know

If it's located at the top of the agitator. It pulls off. Pull straight up. After you have removed it. Run hot water through it. Take a old toothbrush and brush down inside it. You can use Mean Green to help cut the goo. Now rinse and shake over and over. Pop it back on.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
One of two possible causes- the softener tray is blocked so the softener cannot siphon out when the water is fed into it OR the water is not being fed into the tray. It is relatively easy to check for the first so I advise checking that before calling for service.
Here are my general, pre-typed (!) guidance notes for cleaning the tray, paying particular attention to the sentences in BOLD ;-0)
Remove the complete drawer. To do this you will have to do one of the following-
(I am having to guess some of the following!)
Once out identify which tray is for the conditioner- the others are simply 'chutes' and open-ended.
It will normally have some sort of cover over it which you must remove to expose the little stuck up pipe/tube. On some models there is just a small individual cap over the tube. The tube is down which the conditioner and water should siphon. It is likely to be blocked by 'gunge'- a mix of powder and conditioner. The whole of the tray, particularly this pipe and the bit which fits over it, must be completely clean and clear for it to operate correctly. It is worthwhile checking fairly regularly.
