Why is my laptop getting hot right where I rest my left hand when I type?

It's a 15.6 inch screen HP Envy m6. On the right hand side it has that SimplePass fingerprint scanner built in. It's the left side where I rest my left hand when I type that is getting too hot to touch.

Probably where your graphics card and/or CPU is located under the bezel. Make sure you are not blocking the vent holes on the laptop, and try to keep the laptop raised in back to allow heat to dissipate. If it's old enough, the fans might be blocked with dust and/or failing, in which case the laptop won't cool properly.

I have a laptop riser with built in cooling fan to sit the laptop on. When I keep the riser raised so the screen and back of the laptop is higher, it makes that spot hotter than having the laptop level. In fact, since a few days ago when it was up in the back and it got way too hot to touch, I keep it level. It still gets hot but not so hot I can't touch it.

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with the Envy M6. There's simply too much processing power packed into a poorly designed cooling solution.

That being said, there's an excellent thread on the HP site,http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Noteb... , read the fourth comment down by Xephya ... detailed description as to how you can lower the CPU power and decrease the heat significantly. Not my work, just posting the crosslink.

SOURCE: hp pavillon tx1000 12.1 inch touch screen cursor

Clean the screen with a clean soft cotton cloth is the step #1

Step 2:
SEE FULL instruction HERE

Calibrate the touch screen
The command buttons and fields are displayed on the screen image at specific pixel points. To initiate a response, the touch screen interface needs to recognize exactly where a fingertip or pen touches the screen relative to the pixel position of the display. Each user has a slightly different hand-eye coordination response. Calibrating the touch screen allows the interface to compensate between where the program is expecting a touch and where the touch actually occurs. To calibrate the touch screen, place the tablet notebook in the desired orientation and do the following actions.

  1. Click or tap Start > Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings to open the Table PC Settings window.
  2. On the General tab, select the option to display the menus in either the Right-handed or Left-handed position.
  3. On the General tab, select the desired screen orientation from the drop-down menu, and click or tap Calibrate . Follow the instruction to touch the screen at the specified points. Repeat this calibration action for all four of the screen orientations, then click or tap Apply .
  4. On the Handwriting Recognition tab, select the Use the handwriting personalization option.
  5. At a later time, you can return to review the Go to Pen and Input Devices and Go to Input Panel Settings options to make using the touch screen to control programs and input text easier and more accurate.

Compare your version of the firmware to the latest one at HP offical site HERE

Always get the latest firmware to avoid problem.

Always keep the screen clean!
