It looks like the unit has a code programmed into it in the past. If this unit is second hand try contacting the previous owner for the code. If it's new from the shop, then contact the shop. The last option is to contact Kenwood and they can reset the code for you. Unfortunately there is no other way...

Point the remote control to the screen and input these numers (fast as you can).
You will not see any change on the display untill you enter tha last digit.

Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset key (preset keys are the buttons on face of radio for storing you "favorite" radio stations). "C" should display. Then using your remote, enter your code.
Enter your number from the remote control unit. Your code number is 5227 (KCAR)
* Press numeric key "5" ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key * Press numeric key "2" ( 3 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key * Press numeric key "2" ( 1 time ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key * Press numeric key "7" ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

Seems that the head is not working, there is no laser scanning and the possibility that the laser head can be defective.
Now certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it is not read. Hence it will reject. So it is ideal to clean manually the laser head eye using a cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board
