On the tripod there is usually a lever that locks the quick release to the tripod. The quick release is held onto the camera using a screw.

The Velbon QB-4W Quick-Release Camera Platform is a nearly identical replacement for the plates that come with the Dynex DX-TRP60 tripod. You should have had a spare in the bottom of the tripod bag when you bought the unit. The Velbon QB-4W is available at many on-line sources for about $5.95.

Someone said that the Velbon plate might work. It did for him, he got it at Fry's. A place called Quickrelease.com has some but they are not cheap.
