It is possible that there is a thin film of dirt, oil, wax, on the contacts of the unit and also the batteries. I have seen this happen in the past. Try taking a Q-TIP and dipping it into some alcohol and wiping the batteries at each end along with the unit contact points. Let all contacts dry, and replace them into the unit without touching the ends. What do you have to lose? Good Luck Friend.

How to measure rain fall when your rain gauge overflows

Most rain gauges that you will make at home will only measure up to one inch of rain fall. The problem with this is that if you live in a place where you will get more than one inch of rain your measurement if taken incorrectly will be very skewed. If your rain gauge has been constructed correctly you should have a fail safe in place.

When you construct a rain gauge you should have a measuring tube inside of an over flow tube. The meausuring tube will hold about one inch of rain fall, but when more rain falls the inside tube will overflow into the outer tube. To measure the excess rain fall you will follow a few simple steps.

Start by reading the inner tube of the rain gauge and then carefully empty the tube. Make sure that you don't pour out the water that has overflowed into the outer tube.

Once all the water for the measuring tube has been emptied carefully pour the excess rain water into the measuring tube. To get the most accurate reading try your best to not spill any water out, you can pour the water over a bucket to make sure that if you do spill any out you will catch it and be able to measure accurately.

If there is a lot of overflow you might want to measure a little bit of overflow at a time to get an accurate read. As you measure, write down the measurements and when you finish add up the values to get the reading.

The readings are done in inches so you have a reading that is 1.00 and has an overflow that measures up to .50 then the total read out will 1.50 inches.

I have a weather station 9N14 V030U and I can't get the outside temperature to program. We just changed the batteries in both units.

  • Remove all batteries
  • Install replacement batteries in the outside unit
  • After allowing time for the outside unit to initialize and begin transmitting data, install batteries in the inside unit. You should see the outside temperature displayed.

TX58UN-IT transmit icon is on, does not measure rain.

I had this problem and after 7 days I've heard nothing back from LaCrosse. Problem appears to be a non-functioning magnetic reed switch inside the circuitry housing. It's easy to remove the cover with a tiny phillips screwdriver (mind the small and delicate gasket/o-ring). Then the circuit board is held in with two more tiny philips screws at the bottom of the housing. Removing and replacing the switch will require a low-wattage soldering pencil. I used a Standex-Meder part number ORD228VL-1015 from Digi-Key. Only a couple $, cheap, fast shipping. It appears to be an EXACT replacement.

Outside temp not measuring correctly

I keep the outside unit of our in/out set under a coffee can shaded under a bench; one could argue the aesthetics but shielding it from wind and sun is mandatory otherwise one can get record temps pretty often.
The outside units generally transmit to the receivers only every few minutes to keep battery consumption down so moving them won't necessary gie you an immediate change.
