Facebook is undergoing a major update, so you can expect to see numerous bugs and glitches across the site. Just wait it out, they will fix everything within the week. Also, it is important to note that you may have already been updated to the new facebook, which moved the "people you may know" box towards the bottom of the page, in which you might have to scroll down to locate it.
Hope this helped!

It could likely be caused by IE8 as it was just released and will still have a
few bugs...we're just now rolling out IE7 at my job. Took us that long
to make sure all of the bugs were worked out and we found all possible
fixes to why it wouldn't work with some of the Web sites our employees
Did you have this problem before using IE8? If not, then you just solved your problem!
If you don't want to roll back to IE7 then download and install a different browser. Firefox is a really great option and I'm addicted to it. Google Chrome is great too. You should have at least one other browser installed anyway. That way, if one ever crashes (most likely one being Ineternet EXPLODER!) then at least you have a backup and can still access the Internet.
Either uninstall IE8 (which should automatically roll you back to IE7. Then go to facebook to log in and see if that fixed it.
Or, you can download Firefox (free) and install on your computer. Launch Firefox after installation completes and go to your facebook page. I can tell you know that you won't have the same problem unless something is wrong with your system.
Hope this fixes ya!

this "bringing you back to your own homepage" thing happens to me occasionaly. I would try, restarting the computer. If that doesn't work, wait a little while, it usually fixes itself, and seems to be more of a problem with FB that with what you are doing. If it continues, email the support staff at FB and explain the problem.

SOURCE: can not get FB sign
What does this strange page say? Enter the mobile no, alternate e-mail etc., If yes then please click the profile button at the top to skip it. However I recommend that you enter the alternate e-mail ID as you will be able to restore your account using it just in case its hacked.
