Our Yamaha 115 motor won’t tilt/lift. Clicking noise but nothing happens, boat battery is fully charged

Take of the tilt unit and take it apart, look for worn parts, or take it to a marine engineer. You probably need a new unit. There are two types though, hydraulic and manual.

There are videos and text in the link to help you. This is a well known problem by the looks of it.

Have evinrude 225 etec and the hydraulic tilt will not tilt motor all the way up

Hey Hunter,
First, make sure the manual release screw is seated tight.(port side of engine mount) ..Does the pump run and just not lift? Does the motor jump and jerk while you are trying to trim up? Can you lift the engine by hand while you are trimming? Have you filled the fluid reservoir with fluid? - There is a cap with a slot on the reservoir - MAKE SURE the engine if at full tilt - fill the reservoir.. you can use Dexron type III transmission fluid.... check these items and reply to me.

The trim/tilt on my 97 Johnson 150 outboard is not moving. Tilt motor runs. Some time ago my mechanic told me not to run the tilt all the way to the top, which is, I think, what happened. Any ideas on...

Make sure there is not a spring loaded locking lift latch engauged. If there is you will see a little movement and then the motor will sound slower. If there is no movement and the motor runs the same speed with no change you are low on hydraulic tilt and trim fluid.

Please take a moment and rate my answer............ Thanks

1994 Power Trim unit motor runs but wont lift engine.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not trying to insult you.. I just don't know you level of understanding of the trim unit so I'm starting simple.....

First, these are normally a hydraulic system. Did you check the hydraulic fluid level to ensure it's full?

Second: The ram (what raises/lowers the engine) has seals in it. Have you checked to make sure you do not have a leak in the seal where the ram goes in and out? If there is a leak, the piston will just push fluid/air out and not have enough pressure to lift the engine.

Third: Is the shaft coming out of the ram nice and shiny and not rusted? I have seen them rust/fuse to the housing and fail to go in/out when the switch is activated to raise/lower the motor. A few good soakings over a couple of days with a product like PB Blaster should free it up. Make sure to lube the shaft regularly through the season, at the end of the season and after storage if it's not used in the winter months.

Fourth (forgive me for even mentioning it) do you have a trim/tilt lock on the engine? Many outboards have a lock on them so you can lock it while trailering/storing it and take the pressure off the hydraulic pump/ram. Hopefully this will get you pointed in the right direction.

My trim and tilt is making a noise at the top of its tilt I need to know where to put hydraulic oil on as a start

You should see a roughly boxed shaped container on the inside Transom. It will have a few small hydraulic lines going to and from it. Depending on the Brand of Outdrive most have a single screw on top of a frosted clear cover.

When you remove that cover you will see a place to fill the fluid. There really is not much size to the part, about the size of a Quart can.

Motor lifts but won't go down- motor will start-lift still won't

Most manual lift outboards have an automatic catch to hold the motor up once it is raised. If it is an electric/hydraulic tilt & trim unit it could be a faulty switch or solenoid.

My 1978 140 evinrude electric trim tilt motor working but wont lift or lower happend suddenly after it lifted.maybe the pump?

First make sure you are not in transit mode. Some outboards have a lever which keeps the motor tilted for trailering. You should have a fuse for the tilt motor, check that. If the pump is turning and it sounds like it is whining you are pushing air and either lost your hydraulic fluid or have an air bubble in the system. Check your fluid reservoir.

1992 150hp merc black max and hydraulics won't work, sounds like a sick animal.

On the bottom of the trim/tilt cylinder there is a big white slotted head screw usually located on the right side. Turn that out about 3 turns. Have someone help you manually lift the engine and while it is up tighten that screw back up and it should stay. From there you can check your trim lines and check the Cylinder for leaks. Also check to make sure that there is no water in the system. Once the engine is all the way up just engage the tilt lock and you will be able to do anything that you need to without fear of the engine bleeding back down.
