I get my Canon printer MG 3100 series ink refilled rather than buy expensive replacement cartridges. But in doing that I keep getting a message on screen that my ink is empty when it is not. How can I fool my Canon into thinking I bought a new cartridge?

Canon MP520
multifunctional device - deactivation of the ink level counter
1. You can do it only when the printer counter releases the warning message - "the ink
cartridge is nearly empty" = yellow
warning mark
2. You have to do this
procedure four times - for every cartridge one times
3. At the screen
you will see three warning messages
- for the first one press
"OK"
- for the second and third one press
"Yes"
4. The fourth
message tells you that you can do the ink level counter deactivation by
pressing the "Stop/Reset" button (7) for more than 5 seconds. Do it.
Later you can see another
type of warning message at the screen:
In this case you
can not follow the previous procedure - there will not be any other warning
messages.
Just follow the
message on the screen and press the "OK" button (5) and you can print.
Unfortunately - I do
not know for how long time it works.
You have to manualy
check the ink level and refill (change) the cartridge before it is completely
empty! You might brake your warranty!
When you insert the
new original ink cartridge, the counter will work properly again.

There are a couple ways to trick it into accepting the cartridge. You can put a different one in, take it out and then put the filled one in. Or you can find a refill kit with instructions on what contacts to cover with tape and you have to do it 2 or 3 times to get the printer to reset. Sometimes you can shut off the computer and printer for 20 min and start it up again. Or you can get the sledge hammer and smash the stupid printer before it sucks up your life savings and vow never to buy from a company that profits from causing problems that they tell you can only be solved by using more of their overpriced solutions.

Unplug your printer from the computer and then the power supply. Remove the inks from the printer. Plug the printer back into the computer first then connect the power supply. Install the inks "very slowly" one by one and then check the levels, they should now read full. Thank you, Dana
