Is it running Windows TabletPC operating system? This version of the OS includes support for the touch screen.
There is also a known Microsoft problem that this might be related to. You can check out this link for more information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914444/en-us
BTW, Microsoft does not charge for calling to get a hotfix like the one listed in this article.

SOURCE: we have a tough book
as if the diver has corrupted, right click my computer
icon>properties>hardware tab>device manager> and look down
list for touchpad, click the + sign to reveal your touchpad(normally
Synaptics), right click and uninstal or delete.
Restart notebook and the driver will reinstall and normal use should resume
if not proceed next
If u are having Synaptics Driver....then
check that Tapping is enabled...
follow steps to know that:
Open Control Panel..
Now Open Mouse
Now click on tab "Device Settings"
then Click on "Settings"
a new window popups
Click on "Tapping" which is listed on the corner of the window
Now after clicking on it...on the right...check that there is "Tapping Enabled or not"
if not...click on that White box...
