Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Which Gary Fisher bike is this?

If the model is not on the frame it will be difficult to identify the model. Try a bike shop to get some idea, can also search BikePedia, but will need to be able to identify components (brakes, derailleurs, cranks, etc.) by model name.

Serial number is GZ842246 what year is this bicycle?

Year is not very important for value, totally unimportant for repair, and few bike companies provide such info. An approximate year can be determined by decals, components, paint scheme and then by searching for catalog pics with Google.

How do I convert my Gary fisher Tassajara from triple crankset to single . do I need to change the bottom bracket and what crankset would best suit ?

You can get a bottom bracket with a shorter spindle in order to move the single chainring closer to the center of the bicycle. This will allow the chain enough leeway to move from high to low without affecting the chain line.

Any single speed crankset will suffice. It's a matter of budget.
