Hello, i have a kenmore 80 series gas dryer(110.74842400). it will start, heat up three times, then wont ignitor glows and just shuts off for the rest of the cycle. i was pretty sure it was the coils so i replaced them. didnt fix it same issue. i used an ohm meter and checked continuity on every part i could. coils, thermal fuse, high limit thermostat, ighnitor, and flame sensor all read good. replaced the high limit thermostat and the thermal sensor even though they read good. i dont want to dump too much more money into this thing, anyone have any ideas?

well i had ordered a flame sensor, and ignitor. old ignitor read open, and new one closed when i checked them. the old ignitor read 63, and new 95. thought for sure that would have fixed the dryer. so all new parts i put in were the thermal fuse, high limit thermo, ignitor, and flame sensor. all are oem parts. also the first thing had done was cleaned the dryer, and vents/ducks from debris. unfortunately the same sympton exists and it lightes 3 times and no more. glows orange then nothing. same problem before i put all the new parts in. afraid there is nothing else that i can replace.

Hello Brian;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.
Recently, I worked on a LG gas dryer. I Ohm the thermostat and found that to be bad, but when I Ohm the ignitor I got a reading of 135 Ohms. I replaced the ignitor. The new ignitor Ohm reading was 167. In other words, the ignator did glow red, but did not have the power to open the gas valve.
Although, you checked the electrical continuity of the gas valve, that does not check the mechanical issues. Sometimes the spool in the valve sticks or does not fully open. You need to hit it with a hammer and turn the dryer on. Repeat this about 8 times.
Make sure your hot air distribution manifold is not plugged up. This too will shut your unit down.

SOURCE: Kenmore Dryer only lights gas sporaticly

replace the igniter. The ignitor is the most comon problem with gas appliances checking continuity does not tell you if it is bad or not it has to draw a certain amount of amps to open the gas safty valve and the is no safe way to check this on most gas dryers

try clearing out the exhaust duct that runs from the back of the dryer to the outside of the house. If this is clogged then this will limit air flow therefore by extinguishing you fire. An easy test to figure this out would be to remove the hose from the back of the dryer and see if you get the same results. If you get the same results try checking all the traps for lint and debris.

SOURCE: kenmore 500 series gas dryer

Hello,

Having checked or replaced what you have thus far here a few things still to check

Cycling thermostat in blower housing,in addition to thermal fuse it must have continuty to be good

Timer check wiring diagram in control panel and check for continuty that are supposed to be closed when set to a normal heat cycle

Motor switch heat circuit check again with wiring diagram and see which wires on motor switch must be closed when running so dryer will heat. This a built curcuit asurring the dryer will never heat when motor is off

If your model has it check heat relay in control panel for continuty on heating circuit for relay(not the circuit that closes relay)

as far as power to the ignitor the hot side comes from timer to and through the thermal fuse and cycling t-stat, to ignitor.the neutral comes from neutral wire on cord to and through motor when motor is running and motor switch is closed

so on ignotor plug check hot wire to ground(not neutral) if has 120 vac to it timer/t. fuse/ cycling t-stat and flame switch are all good and its the motor switch is the problem. The motor switch can not replaced seperatly and must replace entire motor

Kenmore 80 series gas dryer has not heat

most of these dryers have a little plastic plug on the front, left side. pop that plug out and look inside after turning it on. you should see a red glow. if not, then your ignitor has broken. if you see a glow, then the problem is probably one of the two little coils on the gas valve. these coils will sense if there is something to light the gas [the red glow] and open the valve - if the coils are bad, they won't open the valve

Dryer heat turns off after about 5 min- dyer will remain running but no heat

HI, After the heat shuts down, do you hear a click like it is trying to heat again but then get no flame. The most some problem is the coils on the gas valve go bad and will not reopen after they have heated up.
Remove the cap on the front lower left panel. After dryer has ran and heat shuts down, watch and se if the ignitor glows again (you will hear a click) and the ignitor shuts off before a flame. If this happens, change the coils on th gas valve.
Here is instruction: Normal 0 UNPLUG the dryer. This model you need to remove the two screws under the lint screen. Now use a flat blade screw drive and insert it in the gap between the top and the front panel and pry the top up. Now locate and remove the screws on the inside of the front panel in upper corners. The front should lift off. You will see the two black coils on the gas valve. When you remove the three wire coil, make sure the sleeve inside it gets put back on the post the coils slides onto.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic
